The 2021 Grammys

On March 14, the 63rd annual Grammy Award show took place outside the Staples Center this year due to COVID-19 precautions. Dozens of artists performed at the socially distanced event, with celebrities such as Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, and more performing some of their newer releases as well. Additionally, Beyonce took home four Grammys this year, which added to her new total of 28 Grammy awards in all, thus making her the new record holder for having won more Grammys throughout her career than any other woman. Another history-maker this year was Taylor Swift, who took home a Grammy for Best Album, which has now made her the first woman to have won that category three times throughout her career. Comedian Tiffany Haddish also had her time in the spotlight when she took home a Grammy for Best Comedy Album, which has not been won by a woman of color since 1988. And to make the night even more special, 19-year-old Billie Eilish won Best Record for her new song "Everything I Wanted", surprising the world by surpassing her fellow nominees Megan Thee Stallion, Taylor Swift, and more at the event. Although these are just a few examples of accomplishments throughout the night, the Grammys this year seemed to be a success, with outstanding performances and show-stopping fashion. Even more so, many took notice of the rise in women who brought home awards this year, which encouraged those concerned about the lack of representation throughout the program. Though the Grammys are continuously scrutinized and critically observed every year, many are pleased with the outcome, and artists were grateful to have had the chance to gather and celebrate one another amidst all of the chaos over the past year.
