spotlight: savy's tees

Junior, Savannah Lopez has developed a substantial career for herself through creating her own clothing brand. Savannah, or Savy, created her clothing brand Savy’s Tees her freshman year after she started to pay closer attention to her parents’ business: Chendo’s, a screen printing and embroidery business. Her family, including her aunt, a graphic designer, has influenced her significantly towards the clothing industry, teaching her a lot through the years about business and design. Freshman year she started to design her own t-shirts to express her own creativity.

Soon, her friends took notice of her cute clothes, and she thought she could make a business out of it, with the resources easily accessible. Savy wanted to make a recognizable logo that was connected to her; thus, the simple and sleek S and T for Savy’s Tees was created. Producing creative designs can be hard, but for Savy it comes naturally: “Sometimes I have a set series or design I want to make that I know people will like, having to do with the current trends, color schemes, or overall style.” There are also times that inspiration just comes to Savy at random times; she often writes ideas down and later begin developing concepts in a design software. She says she will “never release a design without being completely happy and satisfied with how it turned out,” which can lead to her delaying her content because she wants it to be perfect.

Although her company is a priority to Savy, she often has to take breaks from designing due to her busy schedule. Constantly trying to balance a business, school, and band can be difficult, but Savy is constantly thinking about new content. In the future, she would love to take Savy’s Tees as far as possible. She’s had a great positive response to her design and production, with an expansion of other types of clothing, including crop tops, tank tops, windbreakers, jerseys, hoodies, and more. As of right now, a minimalistic Savy’s Tees website is on its way, where consumers can view the clothing and place their orders for their favorite T-shirts, outerwear, hats, and beanies.

For now, if you want to reach Savy and place an order, you can follow her on Instagram, @savystees.
