Meet This Year's ASB Executive Board
by Madeleine Woodforde, Staff Writer
Whether you’re dancing at homecoming or donating blood, chances are you’ll encounter the hardworking students of the Associated Student Body this year. ASB is a student-run class that is in charge of assemblies and events that take place at school, such as the blood drive, Mr. Palm Desert, club rush, and lunch games in the quad. They also plan activities and events to involve students on campus. Behind the scenes, the ASB executive board runs the class and leads the organization and planning of major school events. This year, ASB is led by Emma Breidenbach, executive president, and Michelle Peterson, vice president, as well as treasurer Sierra Jessup and secretary Ethan Horne.
Emma Breidenbach
Senior Emma Breidenbach is the executive president of ASB. Emma has been a member of ASB for three years, but this is her first year on the executive board. As president, her role is to run the entire class and represent the school in district meetings. This year, Emma intends to prioritize the students; she wants to ensure students’ voices are heard in ASB and improve school dances. She encourages underclassmen to get involved and be active in whatever they are passionate about.
Michelle Peterson
Michelle Peterson, a senior, has been in ASB all four years of high school. This year she is the vice president of the executive board, and her job is to help Emma with planning class events like homecoming and manage her ASB group. Michelle hopes to work with administration to improve events, as she believes that this will increase participation and enthusiasm within the student body. In particular, Michelle is looking forward to Mr. Palm Desert, an event she enjoys attending every year because “the boys are always so precious!
Sierra Jessup
Senior Sierra Jessup, this year’s treasurer, has been in ASB for only two years, though she wishes that she would have joined earlier. Her role as treasurer is to oversee finances and approve expenditures. Sierra loves taking part in spirited events like the flag game against La Quinta High School, which she always enjoys attending. This year, she encourages everyone to get into the school spirit and to attend events, because high school goes by so fast.
Ethan Horne
Secretary Ethan Horne is the lone junior on the executive board. His main role is to record the money that goes in and out of the school for athletics and ASB events. This year, Ethan aims to increase the level of school spirit here at Palm Desert, “since in the past we haven't really been known to have that much spirit.” He suggests that underclassmen, especially freshmen, learn as many names as possible and make an impact on teachers and classmates.
