Joe Biden's Momentum

by Matthew Rubio, Staff Writer

Following a historic presidential election, the United States had the entire global community watching the long-awaited results. Once again, the troubling COVID-19 pandemic played a major role in the electoral process, and it would not be an ordinary one in the books. For instance, many distinguished national networks such as CNN, Fox News, NBC, and more declared the former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. as the winner four days after the November 3rd election. This added to the outstanding record from the democrat nominee by getting the highest votation in history with a record-breaking 79,661,770 concerning popular vote. Mail-in ballots ensured that the counting process took more time. However, President Trump questioned the veracity of these very 306 electoral votes for his democratic counterpart because of “infamous irregularities in key States.” According to the Electoral College, the final results were confirmed as Georgia turned blue and declared 306 (D) to 232 (R) electoral votes. Counter attacking, President Trump eagerly claimed he “Won the election by a lot!”. On the other hand, the vast majority of congressional republicans do not support these fraud allegations since there has been no clear evidence from Mr. Trump’s legal team.

It is unquestionable that Biden had been seeking this unique moment before in his life, this explaining the two times the Delaware senator ran for office (1988 and 2008). For many political experts, securing himself a place for eight years as Barack Obama’s right hand gave the former vice president enough political baggage within the executive branch. Therefore, the democrats did not only have a fierce legislator on the ballot but an experienced politician who understood Washington’s ways of getting anything done. Nonetheless, Joe Biden’s approach towards foreign policy during all his years as a senator and VP has granted his campaign an instant recognition from a majority of influential world leaders at home and abroad. According to CNN, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angel Merkel, UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and many more leaders including Turkey and Israel have recognized the election’s outcome. But, there has been quite an enigma from Vladimir Putin’s Russia, Xi Jinping's China, and Iran since none of the three nations have congratulated Joe Biden nor have declared an official State position in the matter.

Having said that, events like the one Americans witnessed as the democrat candidate triumphed over President Trump transcends U.S.’ politics; it imposes a great deal of influence in the entire world regarding a tremendous variety of topics in which the United States holds a high position. Issues such as trade and the current pandemic alone reflects the need many foreign countries have when requesting for resources or humanitarian aid from North America. Putting the liberal and consevative points of view aside for a moment, what is now necessary for American democracy relies on Donald J. Trump by making sure a smooth transition of power takes place prior to January 20th.

Since both individuals running for office have been defending two different points of view, Biden’s policies not only change what has been an “America first” doctrine from republicans. Instead, the transition will embody an international agenda in which coronavirus remains at the top of the list. Subsequently, the American people ought to expect the United States to execute its dominating protagonism within the United Nations, NATO, and many more compromises regarding foreign affairs.
