The application for the FAFSA will open December 2023. Seniors who will be applying to start school in the Fall of 2024 should submit their FAFSA beginning in December 2023. The deadline is 2024, but the sooner you submit your application, the better your chances of receiving money.
We are providing tutorials, courtesy of Cal State Channel Islands, to give students and parents additional guidance through the FAFSA process.
The first step will be for the student and one of the parents to each create an FSA ID. You can go directly to the website here: https://fsaid.ed.gov/
Once you've created your FSA ID, proceed to your FAFSA: https://studentaid.gov
PLEASE NOTE: Make sure you are on the official FAFSA website which has "studentaid.gov" in the title. Never give credit card information on any site claiming to represent the FAFSA. The FAFSA is free.
There are around 250 colleges/universities in the country that require you to fill out the CSS Profile in order to award you their money (this is separate from the FAFSA). You only need to fill this out if the college or university requires it.
