DSUSD Requirements to Earn the SSCE
There are 5 criteria to earn the SSCE. The ones provided in the Slide Deck below are general requirements provided by the State. Each School District has varying requirements that they have developed that best serve their student population to ensure equity. The Criteria for DSUSD are listed below.

Criteria One
Be engaged in academic work in a productive way
DSUSD Criteria: Students must be "on track for graduation."
Criteria Two
Demonstrate a competent understanding of U.S. and California constitutions; functions and governance of local governments; tribal government structures and organizations; the role of the citizen in a constitutional democracy; and democratic principles, concepts, and processes
DSUSD Criteria: Students must earn a passing grade in US History and US Government or an equivalent course. If a passing grade is not earned a course equivalent is available through the school site coordinator.
Criteria Three
Participate in one or more informed civic engagement project(s) that address real-world problems and require students to identify and inquire into civic needs or problems, consider varied responses, take action, and reflect on efforts
DSUSD Criteria: Students first apply to complete a project using their school's Application (Google Form) available under the resources tab. Students complete projects according to guidelines given by school site coordinators.
Criteria Four
Demonstrate civic knowledge, skills, and dispositions through self-reflection
DSUSD Criteria: Students will meet at regular intervals with their school site coordinator. As the project is developed reflection requirements will be determined between the student and coordinator.
Criteria Five
Exhibit character traits that reflect civic-mindedness and commitment to positively impact the classroom, school, community and/or society
DSUSD Criteria: Students will exhibit a commitment to civic service and positive community engagement. Students will be a positive ambassador of their school and community.
