4th Grade Teacher
Hello! My name Is Hanna Sorum and I'm so excited to be a 4th grade teacher at Dover-Eyota Elementary School! I am passionate about helping students learn, grow, and feel confident In themselves as learners. I strive to create a classroom where every student feels welcomed, supported, and excited to come to school each day.
I am looking forward to getting to know my students and their families, and making this a wonderful year of learning, growth, and memories!
My goal as an educator is to create a classroom where every child feels safe, valued, supported, and capable. I believe children learn best when they know their teacher cares about them as a person and believes in their potential. Building strong relationships and creating a welcoming classroom community are at the heart of my teaching.
I strive to meet each student where they are and to provide the support and challenge they need to grow. I value student voice and encourage children to take an active role in their learning by setting goals, reflecting on their progress, and celebrating their accomplishments. I want every student to feel a sense of belonging and learn to support and celebrate one another.
While academic growth is important, I believe building confidence, kindness, responsibility, and perseverance, along with a love of learning, is just as meaningful. My hope is that every child leaves my classroom knowing they are capable, their voice matters, and they can make a positive difference in the world around them.
I grew up in Kasson-Mantorville, Minnesota, with my younger siblings, and from a young age I naturally took on the role of helper, teacher, and encourager in their lives. Those early experiences helped shape my desire to become a teacher.
I attended Winona State University, where I had the opportunity to work in a variety of classrooms through an internship with the Byron School District. After graduating, I moved to Northern Minnesota where I spent three years teaching fifth grade in the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley School District. Living and teaching in a small community has been incredibly meaningful to me, and it has reinforced my belief that schools play an important role in both students’ lives and the community as a whole.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time outdoors, walking my dog (Lewie), reading, crafting, golfing, baking, and spending time with friends and family. These hobbies help me bring creativity, balance, and positivity into my classroom.
