Derrific Technology is a one-person software shop founded in 2026 by Richard Derr. I've been building apps for my own use for several years, and in 2026 I decided to make them available to anyone interested at prices as low as Google and Apple will let me sell them. The only reason I charge at all is to cover the basic expenses of creating and maintaining these apps.
The goal is simple: replace the apps that are draining your bank account and your sanity with ads and subscriptions. Derrific Technology builds affordable alternatives to basic apps, the kind that shouldn't need to bombard you with ads, lock features behind a monthly fee, or quietly collect your data to make money.
My first two apps are good examples of the problem I am trying to solve. The first app is "The Game Parlor" which includes 10 basic games like Sudoku, Nonograms, Solitaire, and Minesweeper. The 2nd app is a grocery list app that allows you to save your weekly staples, add common recipes, assign them to your grocery stores and to an aisle within your store. For both apps, you pay once and get access to everything with no ads, subscriptions or data services. These are incredibly simple apps designed to be entertaining and to make life a bit easier. No company should be charging anything other than the bare minimum for apps like these.
We build basic apps that have the following benefits:
No Ads
No Subscriptions
No Data Collection
No Accounts or Passwords
No Tying to 3rd Party Apps
No Internet Required
No Microtransactions
Pay once and get everything
Data storage for all apps is local
Local storage has 2 key downsides for feature:
When you change phones, you will lose any saved data. This is addressed through an import function that requires a small amount of technical ability.
There will never be a feature that allows you to share an account with another person.
I have had a general frustration with apps over the last several years. This story below was the final frustration that drove me to create this company.
I was taking a short flight to Atlanta and had a craving to play a few simple games while on the flight. I downloaded solitaire. I was inundated with ads. To remove the ads, the app was asking for $3.99. A ridiculous fee for such a simple game. After take off, the game stopped working because it could not load the ads. All of this hassle, just to play solitaire.
The app landscape is riddled with these type of predatory apps and practices. A grocery list app that wants to collect my data, tie it to my google account, and requires a subscription or ads. A to do app that requires a google account, has 3rd party data collection, and a 10 page user agreement.
They build massive features that require APIs and data storage, which then requires accounts and passwords introducing security risks, then try to milk you through ads or subscription services. All of this to simplify your grocery list process or for you to get access to simple games.
We need to condense the nonsense. My apps solve simple problems with simple solutions.
