The Drill Team is currently commanded by C/LTJG Emma Wade
In the NJROTC Drill team we do marching and team/work building to work together. We use teamwork when we are marching because we all have to be on step and move together in a single motion. The goal is to develop discipline, teamwork, and military bearing. It also helps gain leadership, life skills, and a sense of determination. We practice drill to compete for trophies and awards against other high schools in our area 3 district.
The Air Rifle Marksmanship Team is currently commanded by C/CPO Gabriella Vinas
In the Marksmanship we teach cadets firearms safety to control and respect firearms. The marksmanship teams help cadets develop discipline, patience, and concentration. These skills can translate to improved academic performance and self-confidence. We practice shooting to participate in a variety of competitions, including the JROTC Three-Position Air Rifle Postal Competition and the JROTC National Air Rifle Competition.
The Orienteering Team is currently commanded by C/CPO Daisy Shelton
Orienteering is an outdoor sport that involves navigating by compass and map to reach checkpoints in a race against time. The cadets have learned how to work together as a team and navigate with a compass.
The Drone Team is currently commanded by C/CPO Tyler McCarty
The drone team is a new team at Deptford. The cadets have learned proper etiquette when flying drones. They have also learned the proper way to fly and land drones.
The color guard is currently commanded by C/SCPO Todd Steward
In color guard, we harness team work, patience, and communication between a four person squad. Our color guard consists of a left rifleman, a right rifleman, and two flag bearers. The two flags primarily used in our unit are the American Flag and the Navy Flag. Each cadet in the four person squad represents a different aspect. The riflemen represent the strength of our unit, and the flags uphold the respect and honor we show in the program. Our accomplishments include two events where we achieved second place, and two events where we achieved third place. We have covered multiple home games during the football season, and prestigious events. While being in this after school activity you will make friends with the people you work with.
