Goal:
• Your goal is to help our community see how we can use music to communicate about characters and themes in a story
Role:
• You are music curator for a streaming music service that is producing a special edition collection of literary-inspired playlists and working with a local bookstore to promote the book Dubliners.
Audience:
• The audience is the local community that the book store aims to motivate to read the book Dubliners as well as music and literary enthusiasts on the streaming service.
Situation:
• You have been asked by the local book store to put together literary playlists for the partner organization to publish on their website.
Product/Performance and Purpose:
• You need to prepare a single playlist for a literary text they read together. You will need to provide a chart with analysis of theme/character development (including text evidence) for each section of the literary text, song selections, and song analysis (including text evidence) as well as a one-paragraph rationale for each song selection on the playlist
Standards & Criteria for Success:
• In accordance with the standards and its connection to the book Dubliners, students will be assessed on their abilities to analyze for characterization, character development, themes (particularly paralysis and epiphany), and setting/tone/mood, using thorough textual evidence. Students will be assessed on presentation of thorough evidence and demonstration of ideas in a clear and effective manner.
