What is SEPAG?
The purpose of SEPAG is to provide input regarding the policies, programs, and practices that impact services and supports for children with disabilities and their families. This input shall pertain to the education, health, and safety of children with special needs. SEPAG shall encourage the participation of families of children with special needs to increase their involvement in making recommendations on special education policy by participating in the planning, development, and evaluation of the district’s special education programs and services. The Director of Special Services shall be the line of communication with the District and the Board of Education.
Who can join?
All parents and family members, teachers, and other school professionals, paraprofessionals, and any interested individuals seeking to learn more about special needs and/or learning difficulties are welcome to join. This includes:
Parents who have questions about their child’s needs, from the mildly impaired to the most significantly challenged.
Parents who want up-to-date information on Special Education programming, services, and IEPs.
Parents of children with health, social, and emotional challenges that affect their child’s education.
Parents who want to network with other special-needs parents.
We know that parenting a child with special needs and learning differences can be a lonely journey. Often times, families feel isolated and frustrated. Deptford SEPAG is here to make every effort to connect families with resources and education so that they may gain the knowledge and confidence needed to ensure their child’s highest level of achievement.
Our Mission Statement
The Deptford Township SEPAG is a community based organization that collaborates with the district to advance opportunities and to assist families of children with special needs. This consists of:
Advisory
To communicate a family’s perspective on programming, district policies, and inclusive best practices & supports.
Advocacy
To empower families through knowledge & understanding and to provide a forum for families to have a voice on behalf of their child.
Access to Resources
To assist families in identifying community based resources and supports through speakers, literature, and social meetings.
