Preschool Intervention and Referral Team (PIRT)
Our preschool program utilizes the Pyramid Model for Promoting Social Emotional Competence in Infants and Young Children. The Pyramid Model is a framework of evidence-based practices for promoting young children’s healthy social and emotional development.
Who is PIRT?
The Preschool Intervention and Referral Team (PIRT) is a multidisciplinary team of specialists composed of Administration, the Preschool Instructional Coach, the Preschool Intervention and Referral Specialist, a member of the Child Study Team, Classroom Teachers and other support staff as needed.
Collectively, the team has a strong background in early childhood education, child development, the district chosen curriculum, and the four levels of the Pyramid Model. The team welcomes requests for assistance from school staff when they are experiencing educational difficulties in which traditional efforts to improve the situation have not been met with success.
What is the Role of the PIRT?
PIRT is in place to assist preschool staff in addressing children’s social-emotional and learning challenges. Through the development and implementation of a written support plan, teachers are given strategies and interventions that address a variety of social-emotional and academic needs that may otherwise prevent successful participation in preschool classrooms.
We are committed to working collaboratively with families and staff to ensure that your child is in a nurturing environment where his/her strengths are highlighted and a quality education is valued.
