HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE SCHOOL

Project 6 Special Science Elementary School started as an annex of Bagong Pag-asa Elementary School in 1957 as a four-room primary school in a rented house along Road 9 and 6. Upon completion of its building in an 11,598.60 square meters’ lot donated by PHHC with Transfer Certificate Title 209353, a complete elementary school was established in 1959 at its present site.

Project 6 Special Science Elementary School is surrounded by roads accessible from all directions; on its north side in road 2, Alley 3 on the south, Road 6 on the west and Road 7 on the east. The school is a 15-minute ride from Quezon City Hall, Presently under the supervision of a supervisor, Project 6 Special Science Elementary School along with Bagong Pag-asa Elementary School, Sto. Cristo Elementary School and Mines Elementary School compose School District V of the Division of Quezon City Schools.

P6SSES is now six decades old and there are many indications of the progress it has made, there are seven buildings. There is an urgent need for repair even replacement of the two oldest buildings in the campus because these are termite infested.

The school caters to residents of the barangay as well as nearby barangay like Culiat, Mines, Bagong Pag-asa and Tandang Sora. The students come from middle class families as well as impoverished families. Despite the difference in economic stature, the parents have continuously supported school projects and activities. All focused on pupil development. Despite the campaign to maintain the enrolment at Project 6 Special Science Elementary School, the demolition of depressed areas in the barangay as well as nearby communities has taken its toll on the enrolment in the school. At present, there are (97) organized classes from Kinder to Grade VI with a total enrolment of 3,228 pupils.

There are 18 kinder classes with a total enrolment of 425. These are household in the first floor of the Mathay building, PAGCOR building and DPWH building, there are one hundred five (105) teachers (ninety- three (93) regular teachers, nine (9) Kinder teachers and three (3) SNED teachers), one (1) School Head, one (1) Administrative Officer II, one (1) Administrative Assistant III, one (1) Administrative Aide III, and one (1) Administrative Aide I; all National paid. The School Board of Quezon City allocates fund for two (2) Office Clerks, one (1) Property Clerk, and two (2) Security Enforcers. The MOOE funded three (3) utility workers and one (1) school driver.

SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS

Project 6 Special Science Elementary School is the only school in the Division of Quezon City with the DepEd - funded Special Science Elementary School. As such, it has selected pupil achievers in its special classes from Grade 1-6. This means that one class in each grade level has to have the SSES Curriculum for the whole year. The SSES group of teachers are encourage to have a year-long training in order to meet the needs of the SSES children.

The school takes pride in being one of the two schools granted PBB of P35,000 in the year 2013-2014. It was also awarded the NCR award for the highest NAT score in Grade 3 and highest PBB in the SY 2013-2014. Its school paper is a perennial winner in the NSPC group category. For the SY 2013-2014, its paper was adjudged overall winner in the paper category (English Category).
