Marcelo H. Del Pilar Elementary School is located at the heart of the bustling commercial district of Quezon City.
Few meters walk from Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) or at its alternate route from Kamuning Road, one will find that the school is conveniently located where hospitals, markets, department stores, television networks, churches, commercial and recreational establishments, principal offices of government agencies, transportation terminals, police stations and detention facilities are found.
It is nestled on a 5,940 square meters of land occupying the entire block along K-3rd Street, and between K-E and K-F Streets. Adjacent to the school at the north-east direction is Bernardo Park, and alongside at its south-east direction is the Lagarian Creek.
From the twenty-six (26) teachers assigned in this school at the year of its establishment, the current forty-two (42) able teachers, eight(8) non-teaching personnel, and one thousand five hundred forty-four (1,544)pupils from Kinder to Grade Six show that the School’s population is indeed growing, though, at a minimal rate. With the City’s thrust of turning the nearby areas such as Sitio San Isidro in Barangay Pag-asa, and National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Road into commercial districts, many pupils are compelled to transfer to provinces because of massive demolition of their homes and relocation to nearby City of San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan and Rizal. The present school enrolment rate is made even by the School’s admission of transferring-in pupils from the super typhoon-wrecked provinces of Samar and Leyte.
Marcelo H. Del Pilar Elementary School was established in 1964 with a different name. It was known as K-D Elementary School obviously because it was first housed in rented rooms located along K-D Street. It was a group of civic-minded citizens led by Pacita Manlapid which initiated this worthwhile cause.
Still in the same year, the group continued to seek for help from the City Government to fund the school edifice. Its effort a not wasted because a year later, with the City Government’s approval and support, construction of the school building commenced.
On August 30, 1966, K-D Elementary School was renamed “Marcelo H. Del Pilar Elementary School” in honor of the great Filipino propagandist, Marcelo H. Del Pilar.
