HISTORY

There was a clamor from the residents of Barangay Commonwealth for the Quezon City Government to establish a new elementary school within its vicinity, which will benefit its 200,000 residents and that of the adjoining communities.

In response to the clamor, the National Government Center for Development Committee, through the National Housing Authority, allocated a 5000 sq. m, which will be the site of the new elementary school.

The Quezon City Mayor Hon. Feliciano Belmonte, Jr. constructed a four-storey, 18-classroom building in that area in 2008.

In June of the same year, 2000 pupils and 38 teachers occupied the new building to address the problem of over population and congestion at Commonwealth Elementary School; while the construction of another four-storey, 24-classroom SB building was in progress.

In September of 2008, Dr. Victoria Q. Fuentes, Schools Division Superintendent, designated a principal, Mrs. Cecilia C. Alba to manage Commonwealth Elementary School-Annex.

Two hundred seventy-five grade six pupils were the first graduates of the Annex in April 2, 2009.

During the opening of classes for S.Y. 2009 – 2010, more children from grade two to grade six were transferred from the main school to the annex to fill all the newly constructed classrooms. In addition, 800 grade 1 pupils enrolled in the annex and transferees from the provinces flocked the new school.

At the same time, forty more teachers were accommodated by the annex from the main school in proportion to the number of newly enrolled pupils.

The same school year, four kinder classes and one Hearing Impaired (HI) SPED multi-grade class were created.

In its general assembly in July 2009, the parents elected the executive officers and board members of their General Parents Teachers Association.

The elected GPTA officers led by president, Mr. Rey Sevilla, together with the Brgy. Council led by Brgy Captain Hon. Jose M. Gaviola, Sr. separately filed resolution for the independence of the annex from its mother school.

The Regional Office released R.O. No. 01, S. 2011 stating the approved separation of Commonwealth Elementary School Annex from Commonwealth Elementary School Main. It was renamed  Benigno S. Aquino, Jr. Elementary School pursuant to Ordinance No. 2059, s. 2011 enacted on January 24, 2011 by the City Council of Quezon City.

         Among the principals assigned by the division were Mrs. Cecilia C. Alba(2008 – 2013), Mrs. Dorothea R. Eseller (2013 – 2015), Dr. Caroline S. Sonquit (2015 - 2017), Dr. Robert S. Macasieb (2018 - 2020) and Dr. Jay V. Ureta (2020 to present).

At present, the school caters to over 4,353 learners and 124 teachers. It also serves five SPED classes for hearing-impaired, and other disabilities.
