PILI NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
At the end of SY: 1979-1980 the Pili Elementary School General PTA, the Principal and Pili Ilawod Barangay Council initiated and campaigned for the opening of the Pili Barangay High School with Mr. Nestorio Belen Sr. PES School head as the Assistant Principal. Out of school youths were the first enrollees with the second year students who were residents of Pili and its neighboring barangays were recruited from the lone private school in Central Bacacay the year before. On its opening too, the Pili Ilawod Barangay Captain and the PTA signed a contract to sell for school site. Pili High School has formally opened during SY: 1980-1981 with three female teachers and three classes, two first years and one second year. 1983 marked its first graduation exercises.
In 1986, with its growing population, Mrs. Encisa, School Division Superintendent made Pili High School independent from the administration and supervision assigning its own teacher-in-charge. The old public market in Punta, Pili Ilawod was repaired serving as classrooms. After a year because of typhoon Sisang everything was washed out. Record books and school properties were part of the losses. From November 1997 to March 1998 a bodega and the chapel served as classrooms for 8 sections. Classes whose sections for each year level were fused together to be accommodated for a half-day session.
With the auspices of the PTA, temporary buildings were built in the summer of 1988 at the permanent school site adjacent to the Pili Elementary School ready for occupancy for SY: 1988-1989.
In the succeeding years, as administrators come and go, the number of teachers increase corresponding to the school’s enrollees. School buildings were constructed to comfortably house the students. Students and teachers were introduced to modern technologies and innovations in education.
At present, Pili National High School is an invaluable training ground in molding the youth of the island barangays of Bacacay, Albay.
