Tubay National High School, known initially as Tubay Barangay High School, was established in 1969 through the initiative of Vice Mayor Remegio L. Zoleta and other prominent figures in Tubay. Their goal was to provide secondary education to local children. The school began with a class of first-year students, with Ms. Sofia Pide as the adviser. Over the years, additional teachers were employed due to increasing enrollment, including Mrs. Flora Lamigo, Ms. Virginia Dumayaca, and Mr. Vevencio Memoracion. The first batch of graduates completed their studies in the 1972-1973 school year.
As the school grew, more teachers were hired, and the school was initially housed at Tubay Central Elementary School under the management of Mrs. Nelda L. Abit. It later became Tubay Newly Nationalized High School. It moved to its site at Daang Lungsod, Poblacion 2, Tubay, Agusan del Norte, on land donated by the Local Government Unit of Tubay. 2000, the school was renamed Tubay National High School, with Mrs. Thelma A. Odron serving as the principal. She was succeeded by Mrs. Mila E. Quistadio from 2005-2007, followed by Mrs. Nelda L. Abit from 2007-2014. Mr. Rolando A. Lauro then became the instructional leader in June 2014.
Subsequent school leaders included Jeho C. Rañin, Principal II (September 2015 - November 2017), Merly S. Pacatang, PhD, Principal I (November 2017 - June 2018), Rebecca T. Montante, Principal III (June 2018 - June 2019), Glenmark dela Sala, Principal I (June 2019 - May 2023), Ivy H. Beldad, Principal I (May 2023 - July 2024), and William Felisilda, MT-I, Teacher in Charge (July 2024 to present). William Felisilda spearheaded the initiative "Tubay NHS: One Portal, Empowering Success," further enhancing the school's commitment to educational excellence.
