As the school year 2020-2021 begins, teachers in Department of Education all over the Philippines have started crafting their own strategy as to how they can deliver their lessons effectively, few of which are the use of podcast and video lessons.
With classroom observation tool (COT), a teacher’s instruction during a single classroom observation visit will capture a snapshot of it while the evaluator determines the instructional focus for each teacher.
In the previous years, classroom observations have been systematic, having the students as key participants, the school heads and master teachers as observers, and the teacher being the classroom manager.
On the other hand, as teachers today gear with the “new normal” in this corona virus pandemic, the challenge to switch into something new has become imperative, classroom observation being the one.
Moreover, in the conduct of classroom observation, teachers of TIS took advantage of what the technologies have to offer as Mr. Marcos, the School Head, always reiterates the need to do so saying, “Now is the appropriate time to use our discomfort to forge a new paradigm.”
With the chosen topic in every quarter, teachers create their own podcast outputs and video lessons to be uploaded in the school’s shared Google Drive.
It can be remembered that before the school year started, teachers of TIS participated in the Project PALM (PODCAST, Alternative Learning Modality) of the Department of Education, Division of Cagayan, to address pandemic concerns and at the same time meet the set goals and objectives.
As change is imperative in classroom setting, the need to change the evaluation method of classroom delivery has also become necessary.
“I am glad that everyone managed to deliver his/her lessons effectively,” said Mr. Marcos after having gone through evaluating the outputs of his teachers.
A reflective follow up session between the teacher and the school head as observer shall be done after the evaluation considering that feedbacks and suggestions are used to improve teaching. #
