During the Spanish time, Sampaguita was not among the barrios of Solana since the place was only rice fields until such time that it got a name. There was one tree growing along the old road which is commonly known as the “Nangka Tree” in the dialect. All the people who passed by called the place “Nangka”. No one lives in the place.
One day Attorney Melquiades Bautista , the owner of the rice fields called his trusted tenant by the name Jose Manzano. He asked him to bring his family to live on his farm. Being a trusted and good follower, he did as requested. In 1951, Mr. Manzano transferred to the place with his family. They were the first people in the place. They build their house along the road near the Nangka Tree.
As days passed, some relatives of Mr. Manzano and other people from other places came and lived in the place. During those years Mr. Manzano was not only a katiwala in Hacienda Bautista but also the Teniente del barrio of Nangka. Being the Teniente del barrio he was able to put up a public market with the help of the Municipal Treasurer, Mr. Lorenzo Durian and Municipal Councilor Mr. Severino Mangada.
Since the population was increasing, he made a proposal for a school building and it was granted which made Miss Gloria Taquiqui, the first teacher of Nangka in 1963.
Years passed by, many people from other places started migrating. One from Caranglan, Nueva Ecija by the nameof Jacinto Santos came and decided to live in the place and he was elected the second Teniente del barrio of the place. Among the newly elected officials was the only lady by the name of Arsenia Leantada.
But in those years its name Nangka was not its official name. When this was established as barangay it was named Sampaguita because of the existence of the beautiful and intelligent ladies in the barangay. It was associated with the national flower “Sampaguita” because this flower is sweet and pretty likened to a lovely lady residing in the barangay. All through the years it was proven especially during beauty contests in the municipal level, 2 the crown holder comes from Sampaguita as Miss Solana. And given the chance to present the Solanian in the provincial level the title holder can even make up to the top or one of the title holders as well. From then on, its name Nangka was forgotten. The residence and visitors now love its name Sampaguita.
