BRIEF HISTORY OF SURIGAO CITY PILOT SCHOOL
Surigao City Pilot School was formerly
Surigao East Central Elementary School
founded and organized by the retired education official
and former Vice Governor of Surigao del Norte,
Dr Regina Zabala Barbers, who was the first principal.
Among the living and retired school official who were
former teachers in the school are
Retired Assistant Regional Director Eulalio P. Cortes,
Miss Ligaya Caballo, Mrs. Pacita Balo and Mrs Leonila Sanchez.
Other well-known alumni of the school
are City Vice Mayor Atty Alfonso S. Casurra, then City Mayor
for three terms and Mr. Freddie Amores.
Later on, Surigao East Central Elementary School with the
teaching staff were relocated to its present location and
renamed SURIGAO CITY PILOT SCHOOL (SCPS).
A committee was formed in late 60's and early 70's
to design and create a school marker and logo for SCPS.
The committee was chaired by Mrs. Azucena Espina,
the First Lady of Surigao City The committee came-up
with a cursive upper case letter "Q" which stands for "quest"
- in pursuit of knowledge and quality education.
The maker made of solid cement was designed by
Architect Ramon Kaimo Jr.
Surigao City Pilot School has been a long standing elementary
school in the city and province It was established after World War lI.
It has produced many prominent professionals both in the private and
government sectors who became pillars of the community.
Many of the graduates have become successful individuals in their
respective careers.
Nestled in the heart of the city, along Narciso Street,
Surigao City Pilot School is serving as the boundary between
Barangay Taft and Barangay Washington.
Geographically ,
it belongs to Barangay Taft.
The school children who enroll in this school are coming from different
barangays and nearby municipalities despite of the mandate on localization.
Through the years, PILOT which becomes the household word
has lived up to its name as a pilot school and has continued
to be the best seat of the best education and pupils in this
part of Caraga Region.
