St. Joseph Elementary School is located in Kamagong St. St. Joseph Subdivision Cainta, Rizal. School was named after the patron Saint of the place, St. Joseph the Worker. This is located in the boundary of Pasig and Cainta. And has the population of 3,000 people with some transient who are working from nearby malls and factories. Twenty percent of the population is receiving above minimum wage, 50% minimum wage, 20% below minimum and 10% jobless. The place is surrounded by some private schools like Wesleyan Academy, Light of Life Christian School, St. John Mission School and Our Lady of Woods Montessori. Our clients usually belong to the low-income families some are informal settlers in the place.
The school was established in 1975 with one teacher who is Mrs. Martina Galapon. She also acted as the school head. The school was occupying a room which is the health center of Barangay Sto. Domingo. She started with 40 grade one students. In 1978 the school opened for grade one to four students. They have given a Marcos Type Building with three classrooms. They assigned another three additional teachers to teach students from grades one to four.
In 1979 complete elementary was build with six teachers and a school head. The first school head was Mrs. Esmenia Reyes. Each grade level was a self-contained class. The classes were done in a whole day session. The school lot was donated by the owner of the subdivision Mr. Gerardo Ozaita. This was under the government of Mr. Francisco Felix the first Municipal Mayor of Cainta.
First graduation was held in 1980 with Mrs. Esmenia A. Reyes with forty graduates under the supervision of Mrs. Jesusa Tanyag the district supervisor.
When Mrs. Esmenia Reyes promoted in 1985 Mrs. Lea Atendido comes in as the second principal with nineteen teachers and a floating teacher. With massive increased of the population the class schedule became departmentalized. The curriculum used were 3R’s (Arithmetic, Reading and Writing), Character Development and Basic Education Curriculum. The teachers are allowed to teach even without eligibility.
In 1987 Mrs. Lea Atendido was replaced by Mrs. Erlinda De Leon with the same number and set of teachers. Mrs. Erlinda De Leon served for three years as school head followed by Mrs. Rosita Santos. After Mrs. Rosita Santos, Mrs. Zenaida Lugay came in. Then Mrs. Leticia Ibañez managed the school.
In 1997 to 2005 Mrs. Cresencia G. Marcelo led as a school head. After Mrs. Cresencia G. Marcelo, Dr. Marilou D. Anduque took over the school in 2005-2006. During the administration of Dr. Anduque the number of enrollees decreased due relocation of some residences. They had six teachers with complete elementary level. When Dr. Anduque left the school Mrs. Elisa S. Babela take charged with nine teachers. With her good leadership the school was build with good environment, with additional buildings, multi-purpose covered court and school canteen.
At present, the school was headed by the Teacher-In-Charge, Mrs. Lea SD. Marinay with ten teachers with a total population of 482 pupils. Complete Elementary.
St. Joseph Elementary School as a learning institution is effectively meeting new challenges and innovations to provide quality basic education for lifelong learning.
Well planned programs and projects aimed achieving better teaching-learning outcomes are exposed to our pupils to provide those experiences and activities that are worthwhile, challenging, stimulating are designed to prepare them to be productive citizen of the society.
With the help of the local government and stakeholders around. The school became more productive and conducive for learning. It has a newly built two-storey building with six rooms and a multi-purpose covered court. The school provides library to enhance the reading skills of the pupils.
The collective efforts of St. Joseph Elementary School Task force with the full support of the School Governing Council will in turn, have effective quality learning among our pupils.
