The pandemic has drastically brought changes to the educational system, including the management of student organizations, particularly the Supreme Student Government. Managing the election of Supreme Student Government officers is a big challenge to every school nowadays because of the disruption. To address this issue, the Department of Education issued an in interim guidelines on the conduct of the SSG election school year 2021 under the new normal. With this interim guideline, the school head and COMELEC of Magliman Integrated School, purposefully agreed to contextualize the upcoming Supreme Student Government election. The consensus was conceptualized based on the following reasons:
1. Some of the class presidents declined to run for any of the positions in the SSG and SPG.
2. We don’t have enough voters that’s why we will include other class officers to vote.
3. We considered other class officers to be included as candidates and at the same time voters in the SSG and SPG.
It was also agreed that the modality to be used in conducting this election is digital using google forms. The SSG COMELEC announced the conduct of elections and schedule of activities amongst class advisers, informing them about the contextualize election.
On September 13, 2021, the election for the classroom officers was conducted and facilitated by the classroom adviser monitored by the COMELEC, SSG adviser, and with the supervision of the school head through zoom application and voting polls. The COMELEC officially announced the election of SSG and encourage students to participate in the said activity. The qualifications and the guidelines for the filing of their candidacy and dates to be remembered in the election of SSG were also announced on the MIS SSG page last September 28.
The filling of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) took place on September 28-October 2. The candidates filled out their COC according to their respective parties. The SSG Adviser, Mrs. Joana Marie Malit, called a meeting last October 1 for all the candidates and discussed the roles, responsibilities, and requirements of being an SSG Officer were discussed.
Following the completion of the COC, the screening and orientation for all the SSG candidates took place on October 1, 2021, through a zoom application. The screening involved the selection of the selected SSG Officers by the COMELEC. Its mission is to screen the determination, to test the intellectual aspects of the candidates, and will of the candidates in pursuing their goal of becoming the leaders of the students in Magliman Integrated School.
After the filing of COC's, the official list of candidates for SSG Election of Officers S.Y. 2021-2022 was publicly announced to the students through posting to the SSG and Magliman Integrated School official page on October 5.The Campaign Period was then started on October 5 until October 7. Using their post with their picture persuaded the students to support and vote for them. All voters were reminded of the SSG Election purposes, procedures, and voting process through their respective group chat.
On October 8, 2021, the activities for the SSG Election took place. All the classroom presidents and candidates who participated in the event. There were 2 parties ("ECHO" and "LODI") aiming to be in the position they desired. Mr. Raphael Louis Dacanay, the MIS SSG COMELEC member, prepared and released a Google form that was used as election materials a day before the election. The MIS SSG COMELEC facilitated and ensured a clean, orderly, and honest election. Voting was organized and fair. After 5 pm, the link was closed for the counting of votes using the Google form.
