History of Sicalao Integrated School

Sicalao was then considered as no man’s land but this land is a hidden paradise. However, despite its beauty, the youth in the community hardly has access to higher education because of its distance from the town proper.

The School Head, Mrs. Dolly T. Sumoldong, with the help of the Barangay Officials and PTA Officials, saw the need of the community for an easy access to quality education right at their door. So they implemented the idea of opening a high school. The risk of putting up such educational institution in one of the New People’s Army’s hotspot was so high because of the threat of the armed conflict but bringing quality education to the people is the priority.

Established in 2009, Sicalao Integrated School is a neophyte in the secondary level of education. The school head had to look for qualified teachers who would help her mold the youngsters. As a neophyte school and because of its remote location, establishing its name in the municipality is hard.

Currently, Sicalao Integrated School (Secondary Department) has eight nationally funded teachers. Still, the school lacks teachers to teach each core subject. Moreover, the school lacks classrooms, science laboratory, and other school facilities needed for quality education. The challenge to cope up with the modern world is also a part of the feat toward quality education at the door of the Sicalao people.

Because of the rapid growth of the population of the school, a new secondary department head, in the person of Ms. Joyce D. Caypuno former Teacher I of the same school was installed in the year 2016 to help the School Head in managing the administrative concerns of the school.

A year after the installation of the secondary department head, the school had to bid farewell to its mother, Mrs. Dolly T. Sumoldong and welcomed a new school head in the person Mr. Juan C. Domingo (School Principal II) who had been the former principal of Nabannagan West Elementary School.

Having the tandem of the new school principal and the secondary department head, Sicalao Integrated School had improved a lot as has been manifested by the infrastructures and other school facilities being built.

Hard as it may seem, the Sicalao Integrated School is bent on giving its students the kind of education they need to be at part with the big ones. With the DepEd’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values, the school wants to deliver quality, even the best education for its constituents.
