1. What is your personal secret to a successful career in DepEd?your next immediate concern is how to succeed in your career. Because the world has become so competitive, doing well in your job and moving forward with your career is more important now than ever. Career advancement and recognition are on every professional's list of goals. But what sets the exceptional professionals apart? The answer is simply willingness and a strong desire to perform well. Once you have the willingness and the right mindset, you can begin climbing the ladder.• Communicate well• Set goals to achieve• Show, don't tell• Gain trust• Create solutions• Be compassionate 2. What has been your biggest career-related achievement to date? **I must say that my biggest career achievement to date is still being able to enjoy the journey as an educator. At 38, I have come a long way from being a man of the classroom into someone who helps make the bigger decisions in the city division. Seeing my former students turn into colleagues make me realize that it is not in what I have personally achieved (in terms of rank and position), but in the impact I made on my students (that they actually chose to be like me, an educator) that real success lies on. The ripples of good deeds and positive influence to my students and colleagues is what I consider my biggest achievement to date.
3. In your experience as ASDS, what is the key in developing a team?As newly designated in the position, I have narrow experience to tell. But of course, developing and leading a team have been my work in my past position as SGOD-Chief for six years. Developing a team for technical working group necessitates one common goal and collaboration, but above all, TRUST.
4. I am fond of reading e-books if have the time. The last book I read on professional development is “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey. This book made me realize that there were so many simple things to navigate life correctly, on how to live life effectively, and get closer to the ideal of being a ‘success’ in life. This brought me to post on the idea that “I am what I am today because of the choices I made yesterday.” More so, from this book I learned that listening is vital for the people today particularly to the leaders, since most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply. I embrace learning the seven habits by Covey which are 1. be proactive, 2. begin with the end in mind, 3. put first things first, 4. think win/win, 5. seek first to understand, then to be understood, 6. synergize and sharpen the saw.
5. Sunny days and gloomy days are constant in life. There are easy days and tough days particularly in work. As an ASDS/ a leader, I am motivated in moving forward on tough days with the end in mind, that everything will polish on its time. Every problem has a solution, behind the clouds the sun is still shining. Think positive and focus yourself on finding solutions and alternatives rather than sticking on the gloomy side of the world. During tough times I surround myself with people who inspire me to succeed. Above all, FAITH in God is my best defense on challenging times, I surrender all my burdens and worries to Him for He is my rock and my fortress.
6. If I visit a planet, I would rather choose logically our planet, but on other places which I have not yet visited for I believe there are still a lot of wonderful creations and sceneries to discover. I am a wanderer, I love visiting places and learn culture, beliefs, and diversity of nature.
