San Nicolas Elementary School (SNES) is a child-friendly school that strongly supports the programs of the Department of Education (DepEd) with intense dedication and sheer commitment.
The school is situated in Zone 6 of the barangay, adjacent to Sagrada Familia, where most of its learners come from. It has a land area of 6,583 square meters.
Fishing and drying of bread (as feeds for milkfish) are the means of livelihood of its residents.
It has a total of five hundred forty (540) school children in its enrollment for the current school year. SNES is headed by a Principal II supported by eighteen (18) nationally-funded teachers.
The school has seventeen (17) classrooms which hold two sections per grade level except Grade 2 and Grade 3 which has three (3) sections each. The kindergarten uses one (1) classroom with two (2) sessions but with shifting of classes.
It has always been a huge challenge for the school to achieve the previous enrolment even before the onslaught of the pandemic. Several steps and interventions have been implemented to achieve the targeted yearly enrolment. One of which is the improvement of the school physical facilities.
It has a school-managed canteen just enough for its enrolment. It has a functional covered court where general assembly of parents and school activities are held. The school has a parents’ waiting area. Individual hand washing facilities are around the school campus as the school’s response to promote proper hygiene, aside from the two (2) group washing facilities where the teachers and learners conduct daily tooth brushing and washing activities.
Major improvement and repairs were accomplished thru the proper utilization of the school funds and resources. All the buildings are safe and secured for the learners. There is a well-established partnership among its stakeholders.
In terms of access, there was a decrease in enrolment in the previous years, since the classrooms and school ground were inundated. Furthermore, the Covid-19 pandemic has even worsened the situation. Gradually, minor repairs, upgrading and embankment were made through the collaborative effort of the administration, the teachers, the parents and the school partners. This school year 2022-2023, there was a 96% increase in its enrolment. It has also maintained its zero drop-out rate for the past three (3) years.
The school has fifty (50) beneficiaries of the national government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) from Kinder to Grade 6.
The onslaught of the pandemic has brought a huge impact in the quality of education among SNES’ learners. The literacy, numeracy and scientific skills were greatly affected. Several assessment results revealed that there was a sudden decline in the proficiency level of the learners in the different learning areas, thus, immediate interventions were implemented.
Promoting the mental health of the learners and staff has been the topmost priority of the school, psychosocial activities and wellness are being conducted regularly.
The teaching and non-teaching staff of the school are all fully vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19, while the school is continuously exerting its full effort to achieve the 100% vaccination rate among its learners.
San Nicolas Elementary School has been consistent in its commitment to implement the School-Based Management (SBM) through educational reforms that aim to promote higher learning outcomes.
