The humble beginning of Sanchez Mira National High School is a story to tell. Eight years ago, Sanchez Mira National High School came to existence through R.A. 8323 sponsored by the Congressman Edgardo R. Lara of the 2nd District of Cagayan. During its 8th year, the 82 pioneer students were housed at a demountable 2 classroom at Nagrangtayan-Magacan Elementary School just opposite of the present campus. The pioneer class increased to 92 on its graduation in March 2002.
The school site of 1.1 hectare was donated by the 4 civic minded families of Magacan and Nagrangtayan. The heirs of Luis Quidilla represented by the late ABC President Carlo Y. Galapia and spouse SB Member Carlo Q. Galapia represented by Trinidad Papa Labucay donated the biggest portion, the family of Paul Alviar Dee, The Labucay-Lacro family, Francisco Collado sold at a very minimal amount a portion of their lot to the Municipal Government as part of the campus.
The first 2 classroom-academic building coming from the CDF of Cong. Edgar R. Lara was constructed at the later part of 1999 and another two classroom in 2001. With the 13 instructional rooms only 1 is of standard size of 7m x 9m. Five from the CDF od Cong. Lara and Cong. Layus, 2 from the then Gov. Vargas, now Congressman of the 2nd District of Cagayan, 1 from the regular fund of Deped and the rests from LGU, Sanchez Mira.
Of the 15 locally classrooms constructed by the school administrations with a total of P1M only. Ceilings and paintings were financed by the PTCA.
An initial fund of P 500T from the CDF of Cong. Lara, a multi-purpose building was constructed and implemented by the DPWH. The building was expanded through local funds. Offices for ancillary services are now attached to the multi-purpose building all financed by civic-spiritual families including from the members of Sangguiniang Bayan of Sanchez Mitra.
The Buildings wee all constructed along the property lines to maximize the area. Most of the Make-Shift instructional rooms and offices were constructed through the Brigada Eskwela since its inceptions 4 years ago.
Sanchez Mira National High School is situated at the heart of the Western barangays of the Municipality, particularly at Barangay Magacan, 7 km. going west from the centro. The school caters mostly to the youth of 6 western barangay of the municipality and 3 adjacent barangays of Claveria. Majority of the school population come from the big adjacent barangays Magacan, Nagrangtayan, Tokitok, Namuac, Callungan, Dacal and Masisit. Beauty Parlor, ICT Center, Retail, Home Furnishing, Carpentry make the place health y and rich.
The Feeder barangay are dominantly Agri-fishery localities. More or less 30% of families has a family member working overseas. Businesses such as Hardware, Funeral Homes, bakery, HB Making, Palay Trading, Coconut Trading, Fish Culture, Furniture Making, Piggery, Trucking, Eateries,
Today, Sanchez Mira National High School is known by its quality performance in both academics and socio-cultural activities. Sanchez Mira National High School though still considered in its infancy stage has already equaled and even outsmarted bigger and older schools. It could be safely implied that SMNHS exists through a well accepted leadership particularly in its academic performances.
