Salong National High School originally named Salong Barrio High School was established in 1967, with a land area of approximately 10,000 square meters. It is located in the heart of Barangay Salong approximately 17 kilometers away from the School Division of the City of Kabankalan.
At present, the school has an enrolment of 1349 students including those from extension school and senior high school, distributed in a total of 35 sections in class sizes ranging from 31 to 47 students. A total of forty-nine (49) Regular Permanent Teachers, four (4) Accounting Staffs, two (2) School Clerks, four (4) Watchmen, and one (1) Utility, and one (1) Secondary School Principal who currently serve the students in all campus.
The school is offering Junior High Classes and Senior High classes with the following offerings: General Academic Strand (ABM, & HUMSS), and TVL Strand (Dressmaking, Cookery, CSS, and Beauty Care). It is supervised by an officer-in-charge with 10 regular permanent teachers. Due to lack of buildable space within the main school campus, it is situated within the lot of Salong Elementary School, and is about 750 meters away from the Main Campus.
Salong National High School main campus is 400 meters away from the national highway and is constructed on a plain area, the school Senior High School Campus is situated inside lot of Along Elementary School occupying an area of at least 1,500 square meters and is approximately 350 meters away from the National Highway. Both the Main School and the Senior High School Campus is near a waterway which causes flooding during rainy season. Meanwhile its Extension Campus at Sitio San Jose, is 400 meters away from the main highway and is situated on top of a hill. The school enrolment comes from the different elementary schools of Barangay Salong, Sitio San Jose and Sitio Tore, and from the nearby barangays of Linao, and Delicioso.
The main campus Junior High School has 30 classrooms. The thirteen (13) classrooms are being occupied by the Grade 7, 8, 9, and 10 students. The Senior High School building which is located at the Junior High School campus are also utilized by the Grade 8, 9, &10 students. There were 11 classrooms utilized as ancillary: computer laboratory, library, faculty room, accounting office, canteen, industrial room, Grade 8 faculty room, Home Economics room, DRRM and Supply room and principal’s office.
The Extension school has eight (8) rooms with one (1) makeshift classroom. Two rooms (2) are being occupied by the Grade 7, one (1) room and the makeshift classroom is used by the Grade (8), two (2) rooms are occupied by the Grade 9 and two (2) rooms are for the Grade 10 students. One (1) room is being utilized as Office / Faculty Room.
The Senior High School has 4 buildings. It has one (1) TVL – Cookery Building, one (1) TVL –ICT Building, one (1) Science three Building and a story building occupied by the TVL – Dressmaking students, Grade 12 ABM / Hair Dressing students and Grade 11 HUMSS/ABM students.
Barangay Salong is a subsistence farming community. Poor soil condition and rugged terrain are the causes of low production. Sugarcane farming is the number one source of income, followed by rice and corn. The barangay is also famous of its sweet mangoes. Some parents have livelihoods like chicken and hog raisings. Others have small businesses since it has its own public market. Agro-forestry is also another activity which is given due to emphasis by the community. Others are employed in different Government and Private Companies.
The school is fronting with Salong Elementary School, and is adjacent to the Barangay Hall, Barangay Health Center, the Public Library and Public Market. The school has an extension campus, the San Jose Extension offering complete junior high school, located at Sitio San Jose, Brgy. Salong and is about thirteen (13) kilometers away from the main school with a land area of 10,040 square meters. It was established in 2004 and is supervised by a Teacher-in-Charge with (11) teachers.
It school continues to implement programs and projects with the help of its stakeholders and volunteers. More projects had been accomplished with the continuous support of the School PTA, City LGU, Brgy. LGU, NGO’s School Alumni Association, Private Individuals, and other Stakeholders.
