ABSTRACT

The main purpose of the study was to improve the vocabulary of Grade 7 students in the new normal, school year 2021-2022. The researcher created and developed an educational game called Digital-Based Vocabulary Builder Game which intends to improve the vocabulary of the learners despite of having no face-to-face classes where teachers can introduce new words and its definitions. This study sought to answer the following questions: (1) What is the level of performance in vocabulary of Grade 7 students, before and after the use of the Digital-Based Vocabulary Builder Game? (2) Is there a significant difference in the level of performance of Grade 7 students in Vocabulary before and after the use of Digital-Based Vocabulary Builder Game?

In this study, convenience sampling technique was used in choosing the participants. Specifically, learners who got 50% below during pre-test were the participants of this study and is delimited only to the advisory class of the researcher. The study also employed a researcher-made educational game called Digital-Based Vocabulary Builder Game which was validated by the District Research Manager of CBD II and the English Department Head of BCSAT. Moreover, a pre-test and post-test were administered to students who have low vocabulary. The result of the study showed that the developed Vocabulary Builder Game was found effective as there was an increase of scores of students after playing the game. There was also a statistically significant difference between the two assessments. Therefore, this study suggests that the developed educational game can be useful in improving the vocabulary of learners by just holding and playing their android phones at home, even without the presence of the teacher.
