HISTORY


How does it started?

To address the increasing need for a public secondary institution, the Barangay Council of Pagsabungan spearheaded by Barangay Captain Hon. Cirilo S. Congson created a resolution for the creation of Pagsabungan National High School. Their dream came into reality with the help of the city government of Mandaue.

Its operation started way back S.Y. 2000-2001.At that time only 3 classrooms were utilized because the other 9 were under construction. There were 91 first year students who enrolled in the school with Ms .Catherine A. Conde and Mrs. Felicitas C. Magno as the advisers for two sections( Justice and Compassionate) Since the school was an annex to Canduman National High School, the supervising principal was Mrs. Rosario F. Casilagan. She is our first principal in the school, since Mdm. Casilagan cannot visit us frequently, Mrs. Dolores Banogon ,the PES principal assist us in our needs.

While we are having classes, the construction of the other classrooms were in progress, it is quite disturbing but we still manage to continue with our classes, handling 8 subjects because we are the only teachers available at that time, Canduman teachers helped us for only I month.

The 3 storey building with 12 classrooms was completely constructed and were used for S.Y. 2001-2002.

The additional teachers were Mr. Jose Milo Pentojo, Ms. Jocelyn Abestano and Mrs. Flora Ylanan, they were all assigned as first year advisers catering 198 students. The principal at that time was Dr. Robert V. Gallardo. He is our 2nd principal. During his term, he initiated the fencing of the school using the bamboo splits for the entire school perimeter. Dr. Gallardo was elevated in the division office for a supervisory position.

Mrs. Felicitas C. Magno was detailed as the teacher in charge for S.Y.2002-2003. The teachers hired were Mrs. Roselita Doming, Ms Lilian Barino, Ms. Cheryl Opo, and Mr. James Padron . The number of students at that time was 239.

For S.Y. 2003-2004, the 3rd principal was Mrs. Arlina Y. Amante. The total no. of students was 603. For this school year, the school was able to produce 87 graduates for the first batch. She is the instrument for the cementing of the school ground and the concrete fencing of the school.

For S.Y. 2004-2005, the 4th principal was Mrs. Leslie Malazarte. During her stay the school was able to received some awards in academic and extra- curricular events under her guidance. She stayed for only 1year and a half because she went to the States for a teaching job. The hired teachers were Mr. Justino Catipay and Ms. Ivy Benitez. The total no. of students was 548.

Mrs. Milagros Ouano took her place as the principal because she was also the assigned consultant in our school. She reported every Tuesday in the school since the bulk of her work is in the division office. She assigned each teacher to be the officer-in-charge for every week. They are also delegated to signed documents in her behalf. The total numbers of students was 632. Mrs. Doming left the school to seek a greener pasture in the U.S.

The 5th principal for S.Y. 2006-2007 was Mrs. Editha Cinco. Her first project was the creation of the Lourdes grotto in school. During her term we joined the Mantawi festival and participated in the tableau held in Mandaue City. We also had our first fiesta to be celebrated every 2nd week of February. During her time our students were now 578. A new teacher was employed in the school in the person of Ms. Connie Nunez.

For S.Y. 2007-2008 still the principal was Mrs. Cinco. The new teachers hired were Ms. Cynthia Ronamo, Mr. Glicerio Asingua and Ms. Janet Bihag, Mrs. Almira Cabatingan and Ms. Cheryl Virtucio. The first issue of the school paper “Banag-banag “ was released. For this year, our students were now 692.

Mrs. Cinco’s term was the lengthiest because she was still the principal for S.Y. 2008-2009. In her last year she was able to hired Mr. Luis Lacson III. The total no. of students was 657.

For S.Y. 2009-2010 our 6th principal was Mrs. Josephine Babatuan. She was assigned to our school during summer time. Her accomplishments during her stay was the creation of a school library, the H.E. room was furnished with cabinet and sofa set and other kitchen and cooking tools. The Science and BSP room were realized. The water catchment was under construction. The newly hired teachers were Mr. Rigel Kent Celocia and Mr. Jose Regidor. The total no. of students was now 702.

For S.Y. 2010-2011 Mrs. Babatuan was still our principal. In her last term she hired Ms. Amor Macasero. The no. of students now reached to 612.The school adapted the MWF-TTh schedule in handling classes. Aboitiz Foundation sponsored an IT teacher to the school in the person of Ms. Gloria Buendia. The foundation shouldered the expenses in hiring to increase the computer literacy of the students.

In the second semester for school year 2011-2012,our 7th principal assigned in the school was Mrs. Aurora B. Babon. She made a lot of improvements in the school like hiring a blue guard to secure the safety of the school and the students. Utility workers in the persons of Roy Remedio and Mila Glipo . Mapeh room was now functional, the garments room were now utilized providing access to students under this major because there were already 3 sewing machines for students used. The Journalism office was now established. The water catchment is now serving its purpose. Before it is so tiring to have the test papers mimeographed because we will bring it to the city, now we have a brand new risograph machine doing its job. The multipurpose area for students and visitors are now serviceable. 10 computer sets and a multimedia are donated during Ma’am Babon’s time. 100 monoblock chairs, 50 of which were given by the PTA and the other 50 from the SSG. 2 LCD projectors,LED tv were also realized. A brand new computer set with printer are now very useful in the guidance office. Ms. Gloria Buendia transferred to Mandaue City Comprehensive High School, she was replaced by Mr. Vernie Ruiz. Of all the principals, Ma’am Babon’s term has a number of accomplishments. She also hired Mrs. Dorme Radan, Ms. Mitchie Gemal and Mr. Vernie Ruiz was now absorbed in the DepEd . Because there is a need for an IT Teacher, Ms. Sarah May Ampo took his position.

The total no. of students was 830. The added teachers were Ms. Cecil Naya and Ms. Ceilo Grace Flores. Until now the school continues to carved a name and strive for excellence.
