The Department of Education (DepEd) gathers various types of data, including personal information, from individuals through different systems to uphold its mission of providing quality basic education.
DepEd is dedicated to balancing two key principles when handling this data:
Transparency: They ensure information flows freely, as mandated by the Freedom of Information Act (Executive Order No. 2, s. 2016).
Privacy: They commit to protecting the confidentiality and privacy of data, as required by the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173).
Requests for data and information will generally be granted, unless specific exceptions outlined in the Constitution, existing laws, or legal precedents apply. The DepEd Freedom of Information Manual (Department Order No. 72, s. 2016) guides this process.
Only authorized DepEd staff can access collected personal information. This information is exchanged via email and web applications and stored in a database, following government regulations.
As an individual, you have the right to request a copy of your personal information held by DepEd. You can also ask for corrections if it's wrong or for its deletion for valid reasons. To do so, you can contact dataprivacy.dpo@deped.gov.ph.
