School History
The school was formerly known as Makiling National High School until the School Year 2017 - 2018 when it was renamed Makiling Integrated School upon becoming one of the pioneer Senior High School Implementers in the Division of Calamba City. In its founding in July 5, 1974, it was known as Makiling Barangay High School under the supervision of the then-principal of Makiling Elementary School, Mr. Severino Lalap, as Assistant Principal for secondary school.
The establishment of the school was also expedited through the efforts of teachers most notably, Mrs. Evelina L. Barricanosa, who recruited students from different barangays namely Milagrosa, then known as Tulô, Saimsim, Maunong, Ulango, Puting Lupa, Turbina, Camaligan and Real. They were able to tie up with the Barangay Captain and the Municipality of Calamba, headed by then-Mayor, Salvador Delmo.
Makiling Integrated School is the only public secondary school located in the outskirts of Calamba City along the Maharlika Highway going south to the province of Batangas, an area now dotted with industrial parks. With the industrialization of the said area, tremendous increase in the enrollment lead to additional teachers and school buildings. This gave students more opportunities for better learning. The dilapidated classrooms were demolished and replaced by high rise, more convenient learning areas, complete with necessary facilities and equipment for a more quality basic education.
No collection were required as the school had done so in the past. Those were the days when high school students paid their tuition fees for a minimal amount of PhP10.00 per month to pay for the 30% of the teachers' salary. The 70% was received in a quarterly basis. Those were the days, when the secondary schools lived tough lives with the students. They provided the students with instructional materials, usually writing their lessons in Manila paper, typed their test papers using manual typewriters, and such a different setting as what we have now. Teachers included Mrs. Olivia S. Piaduche, who became the first Head Teacher, and eventually, the school's first principal, also Mrs. Dolores G. Ilagan, who transferred from Masaya Barangay High School to Makiling National High School as Principal I in 1995, then promoted as Principal II in the same school. Teaches and the school principals were able to make a poor school into a monument, the structures they had were not as convenient as what it is today.
The efforts done by the succession of school heads and teachers had made a school community of successful alumni from its ranks hails engineers, lawyers, nurses, teachers, agriculturists, and OFWs.
An increase in the enrollment means increased faculty members. The school was able to make a name in terms of school competitions in Math Quiz bees, STEP Skills Competition, Technolympics, National School Press Conference, Palarong Panrehiyon and in the Palarong Pambansa.
