20 July 2024 – Sonny Angara was sworn in as the 37th Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at Malacañang Palace on Friday.
“I am extremely grateful to His Excellency, the President, for entrusting me to lead such an important department,” Angara said.
“I know how much he values education, much like every Filipino family. I look forward to working closely with him to pursue immediate reforms in our educational system for the benefit of our young learners and future generations,” he added.
Angara, who convened DepEd executive officials immediately, expressed eagerness to tackle issues in basic education.
“I am honored to lead the Department of Education, listen to and work with all stakeholders, and collaboratively address the challenges in the education sector,” he emphasized.
“Together, we will drive the progress our education system needs and deserves,” Angara stressed.

Department of Education Region XI Regional Director
In his first official speech after the installation, Regional Director Allan G. Farnazo defined the roles that each one play in the Department like an orchestra.
Himself acting as conductor, RD Farnazo wants to harmonize DepEd Davao Region like a huge orchestra playing one beautiful symphony.
“Let us create together,” he said.
Schools Division Superintendent - Digos City
THE SCHOOLS Division Office of the Department of Education in Digos City vowed to strengthen its literacy programs to ensure that learners will be able to read comprehensively.
Dr. Melanie Estacio, division superintendent, said school heads will evaluate the current literacy and numeracy programs and will make data available during the monitoring or school visits.
The SDS added that among the plans to bolster the literacy of children include reading and numeracy camps during school breaks and a reading program involving the barangay.
Estacio believed that if all teachers will provide quality teaching and learning in every academic engagement of learners learning proficiency level will increase.
Engaging students in analyzing in every academic evaluation line in English, Science and Mathematics students will surely improve Estacio added.
She also presented her plan on how to help schools in times of calamities.
“Create a resilient curriculum where schools can easily shift to flexible learning in times of calamities by making sure that kids have complete set of materials or resources to use,” she said

Assistant Schools Division Superintendent - Digos City
Dr. Maria Genevieve T. Francisquete, the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent envisioned that Digos City Division’s LRMS will be an avenue in providing the necessary materials for each learner across grade levels and should provide technical assistance to teachers and school heads on developing appropriate materials that caters to the uniqueness of learners.
The office of the assistant schools division superintendent challenged the division LRMS team to have its own LR center, having such will provide easy access to learning materials especially in times of calamities.
