HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Kasla Elementary School is a newly transformed monograde school from its previous multi-grade setting. Located at Sitio Kasla, an isolated area of Brgy. Nangka, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, it has a total land area of 10, 000 square meters and it was established in 1965. Kasla ES is the smallest school in terms of population of District 4 and it is one of the smallest schools in the Division of Bayawan City. It has 6 regular teachers, 1 school head designated as Teacher In-Charge, 1 utility funded by the school MOOE. It has 7 instructional rooms in which one is a temporary learning space, and one classroom is a combination usage for instructional and school office uses. The school is surrounded by farms and trees with only one house nearby.
The school caters for less than 100 learners in recent years. It offers complete elementary education from kindergarten up to Grade 6. Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 4 are under the implementation of MATATAG Curriculum, while the remaining grades are under the implementation of K-12 Curriculum of the Department of Education. The school stands against challenges because of its educational programs, professional staff, enthusiastic learners, and support from parents, community members, and the LGU-Bayawan City.
The school’s enrollment depends on Sitio Kasla and its catchment areas are the neighboring sitios of Barangay Nangka namely Tungaw-tungawan, Nabaracan, Cabatangan, and Tan-ayan. These sitios have very few residents because of challenges on transportation, electricity and water supplies. The school can be reached by walking, bicycles, motorcycles, and private vehicles only.
The school continually prioritizes and monitors the improvements of projects instigated by the school and other stakeholders. Some other projects include intervention of possible risk of children dropping out of school, the improvement of reading skills, and basic competencies of the learners the physical improvement of the school which includes repair of classrooms, gender and development related facilities.
The participation of the stakeholders in school was evident during the Brigada Eskwela with a big number of attendees. They rendered hours of working and donated gallons of paint and other in-kind donations. The Local Government Unit of Bayawan City poured out great support to the improvement of the learning environment of the school and learning program support.
