San Jose National High School formerly named, as San Jose Barangay High School is located at San Jose, Sto. Tomas City, Batangas, 8 kms. away from Sto. Tomas town proper. This school is founded in 1970 and built in 1971 and started to function at 1972. The founder of this prestige institution was the late Mr. Gregorio Malapascua, who was the “Tiniente Del Barrio “ at that time.
At first, this school was under the umbrella of San Jose Elementary School. The site and building was voluntary lent by the Elementary Administrator, Mr. Fundador Castillo. There was only one teacher. Mrs. Adelina M. Siena with the populace of 30 students. Thru the help of Barangay Officials, headed by Mr. Gregorio Malapascua this school was operated and served. The feeder barangays are Barangay San Agustin, San Juan, Sta. Ana, San Jose, San Felix, and Sta. Elena. At the time of Ex-Barangay Captain Bernabe Manilay, his Councilmen and concerned people, this institution developed little by little until rapid population blown from feeder barangays and nearby barrios.
The first Administrator was Mrs. Martha Maloles who retired early due to her age; then was succeeded by Miss Cornelia Hernandez, Principal at San Jose Elementary School. At the time, she was promoted and transferred as Education Supervisor I at Nasugbu, Batangas. Miss Soledad B. Caponpon was in – charge in both Elementary and Secondary. Mr. Nazario Molingbayan was the first PTA President. Upon the retirement of Miss Soledad Caponpon, Mr. Virgilio Quiatchon was next School Head. Mr. Romello Malapascua was the PTA President at that time.
It was 1986, the Barangay High School was changed under the Administration of ex- President Madam Corazon Aquino into Newly Nationalized High School. Under the provision, Mr. Romeo M. Halili, a teacher and native of this barangay acted as Teacher – In – Charge. At that time, there were only ten teachers based on PSI National Fund. School year 1994 – 1995, a principal item was released. The first full plege Secondary Principal was Mrs. Nelia F. Pizarro. Under her administration, Mr. Romello Malapascua was elected as PTCA President for the second time around. Because of the eagerness of Mrs. Pizarro with her teamwork, Mr. Malapascua and teachers, the site situated in the secondary was documented and titled. This lot was purchased from Montero clan for Two Hundred Eighty Thousand Pesos. Buildings built were population has thickened.
Upon the retirement of Mrs. Nelia F. Pizarro, Mrs. Loida M. Guevarra former teacher in this institution, a promoted Teacher – In – Charge assigned in Natatas National High School, Tanauan City, Batangas was promoted as Secondary Principal. She was the second Principal of this School.
There were 12 sections, 4 freshmens, 3 for sophomores, 2 for Juniors and for Seniors. There 15 teachers from PSI ( National Funded ) and 1 teacher from Provincial School Board. Existing classroom was exactly use only by these 12 sections. Computer Education is opened and implemented. Canteen was functional. Teachers were competent.
Thru the eagerness and resourcefulness of the New Secondary Principal, there were five additional classrooms constructed. The fund came from Countryside Development Fund of Honorable Congresswoman Vicky Hernandez Reyes and Local School Board of Sto.Tomas, Batangas.
The School Governance Council, Student Supreme Council and General Parents Teachers and Community Association are the non – government organization existing in this school headed by the energetic PTCA President, Mr. Romello Malapascua.
Twist of time, changes in the school governance was inevitable. School heads were reshuffled. Mrs. Guevarra left the school for Sta. Clara National High School while the San Jose National High School had Mr. Danny Mutia from San Pedro National High School. Since change is always inevitable, Mr. Mutia had only a short term on school managerial time since he was transferred to another school.
During his time there were 3 teachers who were added to the faculty. One is Ms. Lorelyn Ariola, a science teacher, Ms. Arlene Bondad an English Teacher and Mr. Mark Limuel Hernandez, a MAPEH teacher.
Then next to him, the school has Ms. Soledad P. Macandili a Department Head in MAPEH who was sent by the DepEd Division of Batangas to be the school head. Her being the school head was said to be a challenge to her because she was a neophyte in the field to expertise. But then, there were lots of improvements in the school. Luckily, there were 7 teachers of different specialization. Number of enrollees continues to increase from year to another.
When Ms. Soledad P. Macandili was called back to her home station, Ms. Marcela DS. Endaya succeeded as school head. She directed the school for only 5 months because she was transferred again to Talisay Senior High School due to her promotion. The position vacated by her was assumed by Mr. Noelito R. Opena. During his term as school head, he continued the legacy started by his predecessor. He worked for the improvement of the school. Major repair and renovation of classrooms were made. Luckily, a two storey building with 4 classrooms was granted and erected during his term.
Another twist in the management of the school when Mr. Noelito R. Opena was promoted and transferred to Payapa National High School, Tingloy District. After a while, Mr. Florentino A. Lara, the Assistant Principal II( now Principal I) of Sta. Clara National High School was appointed school head of San Jose National High School.
Despite the continues changes on the management team of the school and many years that passed, the legacy leaves on and the commitment of the school for excellence and brighter future of the students still flaming.
