Drawing has been practiced even before the invention of formal letters. This can be observed in a cave sketches or painting.
From lines in manual sketches to complexed form in digital art of today, drawing progresses tremendously as the technology and the time evolves. But the skills remain to be a personal expression out of emotion, perspective, and creativity – the so-called artist’s vision.
“Artists provide creative, intellectual, and emotional insights into the society at large, impacting the masses and challenging the status quo. Arts helps cultures unite and boosts economic growth – helping the world a prettier, better, and happier place to live in.”
As art plays significant role in the society, an important event was celebrated yearly through the Presidential Proclamation 683 declaring February as the National Arts Month (NAM). It was signed by the late President Corazon C. Aquino in 1991 with emphasis, “to celebrate the artistic excellence and pay tribute to the uniqueness and diversity of the Filipino heritage and culture.”
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is the mandated government agency to organize activities to celebrate NAM having different them for every form of arts.
As art provides avenue to communicating important messages for people, for government leaders or for the current status of the society or the country, walls of the museum or art gallery were filled with pictures, images or painting. Exhibits and other display were organized so as the meaning needs to be conveyed will transcend perfectly.
In this forthcoming World Home Economics Day (WHED) celebration on March 19, 2023, Isaac Lopez Integrated School - SHS ICT Illustration was assigned to do the exhibit. SHS Student will display their manual art pieces and digital illustrations that conveys meaning related to the WHED theme, “Waste Literacy”. Some of their art pieces will affect and touched life, addressed environmental issues and a call for change.
The art composition of the exhibit was conceptualized by Mrs. Julie Ann S. Esparagoza the creative teacher and illustrator herself.
There will be a demonstration of skills in manual and digital drawing during the WHED exhibit at Kaban ng Hiyas, Mandaluyong City Hall Ground, Mandaluyong City.
Keep in mind that drawing is fundamental to the seeing process. It is an “active way of engaging reality, to observe, analyze, and record it with the possibility of reimagining it” (Eviston).
This project aims to:
1. Promote art pieces and illustrations of the SHS ICT-Illustration student depicting environmental protection, waste management, waste literacy, human dignity, and positive societal change in exhibit.
2. Demonstrate illustration skills during the celebration of World Home Economics Day (WHED).
