BPSU - DOST Ties on BOOST

In partnership of Bataan Peninsula State University and Department of Science and Technology, a two-day webinar workshop entitled BOOST: Empowering 21st Century Educators with Innovative Strategies for the New Normal has been organized last March 17-18.

The said webinar was proposed by Dr. Bernadette B. Gabor, BPSU Director of Extension and Training Services and was supported by different school principals in the Division of City of Balanga through the coordination of our very own, Eleonor G. Sioson. This was attended by teachers from different schools as well as the DOST staff and BPSU committee as resource speakers.

This activity aimed to help teachers to keep up with the demands of the new normal through professional development training designed to provide teachers with essential knowledge and skills on digital literacy, blended learning and 21st Century learning methods.

From March 17-18, attendees are enjoined to attend this webinar that would cover various topics to help them become more efficient in teaching amid the pandemic.

On the first day, the speaker Mr. John Carlo G. Quito, DOST Philippine Science High School Central Luzon Campus Computer Science Unit head and Quality Management Representative talked about some teaching and learning innovations like the use of Google Suite and CANVA. He also shared his expertise in technology integration in teaching and learning and showed some of his projects and creative works that really inspired teachers.

Furthermore, Ms. Princess Ann B. Digneneng, a Special Science teacher at PSHS also shared her knowledge on some Ed-tech tools like Kahoot, Quizzez and Menti which really caught the interest of the participants.

For the second day, the speaker Mr. Lemuel S. Pelagio Jr. who was one of the DOST scholars and currently member of Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas and Asia- Pacific Research Association On Curriculum Studies Incorporated discussed about Creating Interactive Instructional Materials using Microsoft Powerpoint that added up to teachers’ basic knowledge on it.

The last speaker was Mr. Arvin C. Fajardo who is also a Special Science Teacher at Philippine Science High School-Central Luzon Campus. He encouraged teachers to explore on Google Education and the use of Google Jam Board.

This webinar-workshop initiated by BPSU and DOST was indeed successful. It really gave all the participants more knowledge and skills that they can surely utilize during Distance Learning and while we are facing challenges in education.
