GUADALUPE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
- is the biggest Elementary School in the City of Cebu, Philippines. The school has passed the Accreditation Program for Public Elementary School (APPES) last 2012.
The current main building of Guadalupe Elementary School was completed in 1946. It follows the standard Plan of Gabaldon schoolhouses. Gabaldon building currently needs general structural repair due to termites infestation, and weather condition.
The Old Guadalupe Elementary School Building was completed shortly after 1934. It was reduced to ashes during the World War II. The Philippine War Commission rebuilt the Gabaldon Building with the aid of the people of the United States of America under the Rehabilitation Act of 1946. This building accommodates the primary schoolchildren under the civil government of the Philippines. Recently, it serves as the main building of the school as the site of offices, library, and resource bureau. It also serves as a venue for ALS cum Livelihood Program and Literacy of Guadalupe. It cater to serve the public and stakeholders in general.
The school lot area is about 2.3 hectars under the name of the City of Cebu which was acquired through donation from private individuals in the early 1930’s. To accommodate more students from barangay Guadalupe , the National Government funded the construction of the Marcos type building and Bagong Lipunan Type in school. It was completely built in year ranging from 1960s to 1970s. The school has organized students to become a choir members that started in 1980s to 1990s. The group generated fund raising activities which resulted to the construction of the so-called Mini-Cultural Center of Guadalupe.It served as an immediate venue for school programs, spiritual and athletics. It also served as reception area for some arranged occasions and community gatherings. The Guadalupe Sports Complex situated in our school was established in the later part of 1990’s.
In first decades of 20th century, high rise school buildings were constructed through the Local School Board and the City Council of Cebu City. There were also buildings built by the previous administration and supervision of the president of the Philippines namely Fidel Ramos,Joseph Estrada and Gloria Arroyo.
In the second decades of the 20th century the Guadalupe Elem became the recipient of the school building project. In 2011, 2 classrooms donated by the Aboitiz Foundation with the principal Michael Cabase. In 2013, 4 storey 28 classrooms National Funded Building under the BEFF project. In 2015, Four-storey 20 classrooms donated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation through the effort of the Principal Dr. Nestor Arandia and the school Brigada Coordinator Henrito Dela Cerna. Some stakeholders adopted the school no less than the Feed the Children Philippines, Lucky Tableware, 8990 Housing Development Corporation and City Savings Bank.
The school population grew to 7000 plus in the second decades of the 20th century as the children from private schools started to enroll. Some youths from nearby town transferred residences near school. The school has offered SPED classes in 2013 and finally received a Certificate of Recognition in conformity of holding SPED classes in consonance of SPED curriculum from the DepEd Region VII in 2015. The school has 159 teachers as of the school year 2015-2016 . The school has 7010 pupils with 162 teachers this school year 2016-2017. It is expected to increase by 2 % every year.
The school is also adopted by Zonta Club International in 2016 up to the present with the effort and initiative of Mr. Michael Estella a focal person. This organization has contributed much to the school children reading enhancement program and even resolve electrical disruption in GES. It also funded the renovation of the Mini-Cultural Center Comfort Rooms amounting to more or less 200,000.00 pesos for the benefit of the school children as our foremost concern. Hands On Manila in coordination with Convergys Inc is also a responsive stakeholder which has also supported the ALS Learners in the hope of early lodging job opportunities. This organization has contributed and renovated the Alternative Learning System Classroom amounting to more or less 120,000.00 pesos in 2017.
