Shaming students for wanting class suspensions due to typhoons has become a social media practice after director Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite gained popularity, but is this not downright hypocrisy?

There are no means to stop typhoons from rampaging the country with impacts that are often devastating, if not life-threatening. In most cases, only preventive measures can help the people survive. Hence, class suspensions are issued by the government in the event of disaster.

Many influencers and celebrities are  increasingly entering the political arena, each want a seat of power. However, this is not a sign of progress, it instead raises concerns about their qualifications and motivation. The rise of celebrity politicians poses a threat to our democracy and the future of our nation. 

A new year surprise was received by public school teachers on the 10th day of January 2024— the guidelines on the implementation of Catch-Up Fridays which was set to start 2 days after the publication of the said guidelines.

Although the Department of Education (DepEd) Memorandum No. 1, s. 2024 has made seemingly complete guidelines on the implementation of the program, it did not deter panic-stricken teachers and school administrators to make their own interpretations of the guidelines.

Case in point: I had nothing against the news that 24 Oras aired on October 8, 2023 which only reported the unprecedented surprise attack of Hamas on Israel— until my classmate cited it in our social studies class as if it was the bible.

While it's necessary to acknowledge the reasons behind the country receiving the "Dirty Ashtray" award, it's equally important to approach the subject with sensitivity and objectivity. Instead of allocating blame or suggesting that we "deserve" the award, it is more productive to go in constructive dialogue.
