Geography
Barangay Ermita is used to be a sitio of Barangay San Nicolas. It is located along the coast line, thus, the area is prone to floods and typhoons. It is an urban poor settlement, commercial and industrial area and became the “Center of Trade in the Province and City of Cebu”. It is the landing and vending area of all kinds of fruits and vegetables from the mountains barangays from hence up to the present. A large number of people from different groups emerge in the place to venture their opportunities, and build their families resulting to a high increasing population.
The parents used to send their children to either Cebu City Central School, or Regino Mercado Elementary School, or Pasil Elementary School which are located in the neighboring barangays. The children go to school and back home by foot, “trisikad”, calesa, or jeepney for more or less two kilometres away every day. The nearest private school is just less than a kilometre away from the barangay hall. Thus, there are some children failed to enrolled and attend classes due to the distance they are going to travel to reach the school. Indeed, there are children who entered school when they are old enough to manage themselves. With this regards, the barangay exerted more efforts and initiating all means in acquiring a public elementary school to respond the needs of the residence of sending their children in school with less expense and at the appropriate age level.
