EWCS teachers in the New Normal
Lornalyn B. Duruin
The COVID-19 pandemic is definitely a health issue. As a response to the threats posed by the pandemic, physical access to education was halted. The severe disruption has been felt by all families and has greatly affected the education system not just in our country but in the whole world.
Relative to this, a newfound purpose on the department’s uniting appeal for Sulong EduKalidad campaign is implemented to stride forward together in crystallizing the grueling transition from the traditional face to face teaching- learning delivery to a remote distance learning delivery as the education system is being prepared for the “new normal”. In this battle, all actions will be anchored on serving the public and on ensuring that the health and safety of the learners, teachers and personnel will be given priority. This period of new normal shall be approached with caution, compassion and sensitivity, so that the process of learning will not be a burden for parents, children and teachers while taking the conviction and pronouncement of DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, “EDUCATION MUST CONTINUE”.
The effective use of social media, google meet, zoom and MS teams in getting in touch with the learners and stakeholders will form part in the delivery of learning to pupils. Therefore, harnessing and maximizing available technologies as viable platforms for lesson delivery and for parental involvement, orientation and participation in various school activities are utilized. These programs and activities such as the conduct of Virtual Parents Summit/Orientation aim to focus and underscore the important role of parents and guardians in making sure that the learning of their children will continue amid expected disruptions. These programs serve as the best avenue and an opportunity for parents to know what to expect in the coming year such as the learning modality chosen by the school, the process flow of distribution and retrieval of modules, and their participation and involvement during the delivery of learning.
