HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF POSSESSION OR OCCUPATION OF NAPO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Napo Elementary School is situated at Sitio Napo, Brgy. Tayawan, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental and was founded in June 2008. It was built in the area were people living is a member of an indigenous people with a total land area of 10,000 square meters. Napo Elementary School was established through the effort of the late chieftain of the tribe Magahat Bukidnon in the person of Mr. Cresenciano Bonghay and Mrs. Victoria O. Galgo the division superintendent of Bayawan City Division in June 2008 which they both agreed and signed the deed of usufruct. That allowed the Department of Education to establish the Napo Primary School in the community and now become complete elementary.
The school location is within a forest land area declared by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the only documents that the school has is the Deed of Usufruct. The school occupies an area of 1 hectare or 10,000 SQM to be exact. It has an estimated distance of 29 kilometers from the Schools Division Office situated along the national highway. It is a complete elementary school with 103 learners enrolled across different grade levels at present. The school has seven (7) dedicated teachers, one (1) MOOE Funded utility worker, one (1) COS Funded by the Division and a school head.
The school ground provides a playground for the learners. Vegetable and ornamental gardens are at the back of each classroom. The trees provide a refreshing atmosphere. The school is under the ancestral domain.
The school is in Sitio. Napo, Barangay Tayawan, Bayawan City with its neighboring sitios such as Guintana-an, Bulwang, Catmon, Pingason and Hag-um. Due to its highly unfavorable demographic condition and distance from the barangay, NORECO 2 was not able to install electric post and lines that’s why there is no electricity in the community and school. The school uses solar power as a source of electricity. During the rainy season, the school can only be accessed by a trail bike or walking.
