History
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF LOPEZ EAST DISTRICT AND DON EMILIO SALUMBIDES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The school was then named Danlagan Primary School, which was situated at the house of Mr. Manuel Villaverde wherein the first teacher was Miss Guillerma Alano. She had taught Grades I and II pupils with the energetic District Supervisor Mr. Mariano Salumbides.
After a few years, a school made of native materials was constructed. The teachers during that time were Mrs. Maria Capellan, teacher-in-charge of Grades I and II pupils and Mr. Melecio Licas, teacher-in-charge of Grades III and IV pupils. The PTA (Parent Teachers Association) president and the District Supervisor held the same office.
In 1947, a strong storm came and the structure of the school building was dilapidated. It was reconstructed for the moment.
In 1948, a school building made of anahaw leaves and wood was built. The grade teachers were the same but the president was new. It was in the person of Mr. Marcos Alano. The District Supervisor was still the same, Mr. Mariano Salumbides.
In 1950-1951, the school building was replaced through the help of Mr. Florentino Salumbides who became the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) president with the same teachers and district supervisor.
From the same set-up, the school building was again replaced and transferred to Barangay Danlagan. The teachers then were Mrs. Irene A. Ella, Mr. Bonifacio Villamor and Mrs. Socorro A. Soliman. The District Supervisor was still Mr. Mariano Salumbides and Mr. Florentino Salumbides as PTA President.
On July 6, 1955, the present lot where Don Emilio Salumbides Elementary School was erected, was acquired through the initiative of the PTA President, Mr. Florentino Salumbides and the teachers, Mr. Bonifacio Villamor, Mrs. Socorro A. Soliman, Mrs. Irene A. Ella, Mr. Teofilo Aguilar and Mrs. Maria P. Ubana. This lot was donated by the heirs of Don Emilio Salumbides, a former Municipal President of Lopez, Quezon.
In the year 1959, the name of the school Danlagan Elementary was changed to Don Emilio Salumbides Elementary School through the initiative of then Councilors Querubin Soliman and Paulino Alano. The Municipal Council approved it during that time.
In 1969, Lopez East District consisting of Lopez East Elementary Schools became independent with the first District Supervisor, Mr. Jose F. Angeles Sr., and first Elementary School Principal II, Mr. Rizalino Florido Sr.. Lopez East District is bounded by the Lopez West Elementary School Barangays in the west, Calauag, Quezon in the north, Guinayangan, Quezon in the east and Catanauan, Quezon in the south.
