The Special Program in the Sports is one the special curricular programs offered by Sto. Tomas National High School, the premier and largest public high school in the schools division of Davao del Norte.
In consonance with the provision of DECS Memorandum No. 242, s. 2000 entitled “Implementing Guidelines for the Pilot Testing of the Special Sports Program at the Secondary level“ and enclosure to Unnumbered DepEd Order, s. 2007, entitles “Implementing Guidelines for the Institutionalization of the Special Program in Sports (SPS)”, to intensified its implementation on the SPS which is a nationwide program for students with potentials or skills in sports. The Sto. Tomas National High School of the division of Davao del Norte had been chosen as the satellite school for the implementation.
The Special Program in Sports (SPS) was originally conceived to address the needs of talented students in different sports disciplines and to identify and create a pool of athletes who will be trained to compete in national and international sports competitions.
The Sto. Tomas National High School - SPS embraced and accepted challenges with the following objectives:
To address the needs of Talented Students in the different sports discipline, through the implementation of the Department of Education program “SPS” and sustain the program in terms of trained Teachers, Facilities, and Equipment.
To produce a holistic Student-Athletes that balanced studies and chosen career with values, skills and competence.
To participate in the different Sports activity conducted by Department of Education and LGU, other community sports activity.
To increase SPS enrolment and retention and improve performance skillfully and academically.
