AGAMAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL………THEN and NOW
A dream turned to reality.
Somewhere in a hilly place at the Northern part of Baggao, Agaman Proper in particular, a secondary school was founded on June 26, 2010.
The school was put up due to the clamor of the barangay officials headed by the late Hon. Ricardo Vidal, the Barangay Captain of Agaman Proper and the folks to have a secondary education provider in Agaman. It was really a blessing to the people Agaman Proper and nearby barangays. Few parents send their children to nearby high schools due to financial problem, distance and cost of education.
It was a great sacrifice for teachers and students to have a school with zero resources. The lower portion of the barangay hall infested by termites was used as temporary classroom for the first year of operation. Another building of the barangay was used on its second year until the first semester of SY 2011-2012. The school started with only fifty- four (54) first year students, SY 2010-2011. There were two volunteer teachers, Miss Eva Jane Carlos, Science teacher and Mrs. Marlyn Bautista, a Filipino teacher. The School Head, Mrs. Chinita C. Asuncion taught Araling Panlipunan.
There were inadequacies and shortage- from school furniture to books, equipment and classrooms. It was through the initiative and resourcefulness of the three teachers that all these challenges were gradually overcome. The school got so many problems. Although the school then was named Baggao National High School – Agaman Annex, there was little assistance (in kind) from the mother school due to its big enrolment. Nonetheless, we owe its operations to the strong willed Principal Mrs. Tessie J. Molina.
From year 2011 to date graces are pouring gradually. With only one classroom funded by the Barangay Development Fund in 2011, now there are numerous classrooms. Four classroom were provided by the Department of Education, 3 classrooms funded by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Baggao, one LGU building and one LGU-PTA building.
Last year, there were six classroom were added in the Junior High School, a two-storey Senior High School building and an unfinished two-storey laboratory building.
With these, the school still needs many instructional and non- instructional rooms like computer laboratory, science laboratory, TLE room, library, clinic, and office.
To date there are eighteen (18) regular permanent teachers, one LGU teacher, four Senior High School, one Head Teacher and a School Principal who are equally committed, dedicated and patient for the cause of education of the youth. For the school year 2018-2019, the student population is five hundred fifty- eight (558) only.
Agaman National High School would not be what it’s now without the collaborative efforts of the school’s stakeholders: the LGU of Baggao headed by Hon. Leonardo C. Pattung, Mayor of Baggao, Barangay Officials of Agaman Proper and nearby feeder barangays, Parents Teacher Association (PTA) officers, the community, traders and private individuals.
Credit goes to the heirs of the late Proceso Dela Cruz who donated ten thousand (10,000) sq. meters as the school site.
There are other aspirations and dreams to be realized in Agaman National High School. Let’s join hands and continue the advocacy for the education of the youth.
