The Casanayan Barangay High School was created through a Barangay Resolution signed by the forerunners headed by then Barangay Captain Cesar Buñi Bermejo Sr., Cesar Villano Cosca (former Teniente del Barrio), Pedro Aguirre Blancaver (who prepared the neccesary papers), Adello de Asis Badayos (PTA representative, who later becvome PTA President), and Erlinda Bermejo-Ganzon (Principal of Casanayan Elementary School). These people prepared the documents for the approval of Noe B. Villareal, then Schools Division Superintendent of Capiz.
In June 19, 1972, Casanayan Barangay High School was opened for its first batch of freshmen students. This was also the time when the two pioneer teachers of the school were hired. Othello Briones Martinez and Teresa Cosca Diocson-Cartujano were hired on June 1, 1972 and August 28, 1972 respectively. Some primary and intermediate teachers were requested to have extra teaching loads to cover the existing needs of the newly opened high school. Hence, the opening of this institution was gladly welcomed by the folks of Barangay Casanayan.
It was in the succeeding years starting on its first founding anniversary that additional names were added to the roster of teachers of the school. They were: Evangeline Banate Buyo, Shirley A. Berco, Cynthia Dumali Badana, Ner Beruya Cantiller-Jabat (the school head of Capiz NHS encouraged to transfer to her place of residence on June 2, 1975), Florante Buendia Patricio, Ireneo Bacay Gerarde, Julia Beruya Cantiller, Zaida Goboy Antaran-Blancaver, Candelaria Ramos Flores-Villariez and Edna Diocson-Navarra.
In terms of school administration, Ms. Erlinda Bermejo Ganzon, Principal of Casanayan Elementary School also become the first school head of Casanayan Barangay High School since it was established on June 1, 1972 until March 31, 1977. On April 1, 1977, Mrs. Portial Villanueva Acevado-Blancaver was appointed Assistant Principal tasked to take charge of Casanayan Barangay High School as its school head.
In 1989, the name of the school was changed to Casanayan Newly Nationalized High School. Mrs. Ner Beruya Cantiller-Jabat became its first Teacher-in-Charge under this new name. It was during her term as school head that the school underwent another change of name from its former name to Casanayan National High School.
For two decades the school shared an area with Casanayan Elementary School. And in 1989, the school received its first building as token of friendship from the government of Japan (JICA), built within the 10, 206 square meters site donated by the Municipality of Pilar.
On March 12, 1998, Mr. Raul Oro Pancer, was designated as Teacher-in-Charge of the school after the retirement of Mrs. Jabat. He was replaced by Dr. Jimmy Begalan Billones who was designated Teacher-in-Charge on October 1, 1998. Dr. Billones became the school's first principal on November 5, 2001.
When Dr. Jimmy Billones was transferred to a new school assignment, Dr. Marilou Bajo Amador-Billones, Head Teacher III of Casanayan National High School, became the school's Officer-in-Charge starting October 30, 2008. She remained so, until the arrival of Mr. Ronilo Baltar Tu who became its Principal II on February 18, 2009.
Another reshuffling of school heads came about in June 2011. It was in this year that Mr. Nilo Lata-Domingo was designated as in-charge of the school and became its Principal III on November 16, 2011.
Another changeover of school heads happened in S.Y. 2013, Mr. Nilo Domingo was given assignment at the Division Office. To fill-in the vacancy, Dr. Marilou Billones was again designated as Officer-in-Charge of school until the arrival of Mr. Elmer Aroña Catunao who headed the school from August 4, 2013 to May 15, 2014 as Principal III.
When Mr. Catunao was transferred to his new assignment, Dr. Marilou Billones was once again designated as Officer-in-Charge of the school. She remained to this position for almost two (2) years from May 16, 2014 to January 7, 2016.
The school underwent series of reforms. The most significant of them is the implementation of the Senior High School Program of the K to 12 curriculum where the addition of two years more in high school was implemented starting from School Year 2016 - 2017.
Few months before the first implementation of this program, another transition in terms of school administration happed to Casanayan National High School. It was on January 8, 2016 that Dr. Aida Bajada Farrol-Villanueva, Principal I, was as Officer-in-Charge of the school from January 8, 2016 to August 14, 2016 and she soon become its new Principal III on August 15, 2016 up to the time this article is being written.
Under the Senior High School Program, the school started to offer the General Academic Strand (GAS) with elective in HUMSS, STEM, and TVL in S.Y. 2016 - 2017. However, due to the persistent demand of the students for TVL education, the school requested to offer TVL strand in Industrial Arts-Electrical Installation and Maintenance and in Home Economics - a combination of cookery, food and beverages services and bread and pastry production. Upon its approval in S.Y. 2017 - 2018, the school began to offer these TVL strands to the Grade 11 students.
On the second year of the implementation of the Senior High School Program, the school has a total enrolment of 1021. Of them, 735 are junior high school and 286 are senior high school students.
With the help of its generous stakeholders and with the guidance of the Almighty God, the school continues to face challenge brought by these educational reforms with courage and determination to surpass the demands and expectations of the senior high school education.
