Long before the establishment of CNHS, the barangay officials and the Local Government Unit of Santa Ana, Cagayan has been doing effort in order to grant the desire of the people, particularly Casambalangan and Rapuli for the establishment of Barangay High School at Casambalangan, Santa Ana, Cagayan.
SY 1994-1995, a dream come true. The joint resolution of the PTCA of Casambalangan Elementary School and Rapuli Elementary School and the barangay officials of the two feeder barangays was approved by the Local Government Unit of Santa Ana and passed through the Department of Education with the initiative of the Sangguniang Bayan members headed by the Municipal Mayor, Hon. Engr. Reynold F. Rodrigues, Sta Ana Fishery National High School Annex was erected at Casambalanangan, Sta Ana, Cagayan in August 11, 1994 with the facilities and financial support extended by the LGU appointing Mr. Rafael M. Avila Jr.as the school head.
An eleven thousand eight hundred two square meter lot (11,802 sq. m) was donated by the LGU. Two-classroom building was established, with four (4) Casual LGU Teachers. With the joint efforts and sacrifices of the four pioneer teachers, they were able to recruit more or less eighty (80) first year students.
With its rapid increase in population, fast growing school facilities and financial requirements, its separation from her mother school was endorsed on May 26, 1997 and it was returned and approved by DECS Secretary Erlinda C. Pefianco on April 02, 1998.
After its separation from her mother school, its own budget was separated in the year 2001 with a MOOE amounting to Fifty thousand ( P 50, 000.00) annually. Ten newly created Teacher I positions released in order to meet the academic requirements of students. In 2002, a newly created Principal I position is established which signifies Santa Ana High School Annex an independent school.
In 2003, a resolution from the office of the Sangguniang Bayan was approved renaming Sta.Ana High School Annex to Casambalangan National High School.
Casambalangan National High School has been provided with some facilities and equipment to ensure effective learning processes. The faculty and support staff continuously undertake professional development activities to ensure quality academic performance of students.
In 2016 CNHS has its Senior High School with academic tracks in Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMMS) and General Academic Strand (GAS). For the following year, the Technical Vocational and Livelihood Track was added with Home Economics as major offering. The General Academic Strand (GAS) was removed in S.Y. 2018-2019 and was replaced with Science and Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) for S.Y. 2020-2021.
