Calaoagan Dackel National High School sits at the eastern part of Gattaran, 14 kilometers away from Centro. It is established at the heart of the clustered barangays from Tanglagan down to Takiki and are adjacent along the Gattaran-Cumao National road and the Dummun river. It’s been a product of ingenuity and integrity.
Years back, the content of a barrio high school tugged the minds of education advocates and parents when they saw the plight of the students going to school posted high risk because of a 12-kilometer hiking experience due to scarcity of public transportation.
Back then, a barrio assembly was held headed by the late Brgy. Capt. Rodrigo Puguid Mandac attended by his councilors, some elementary teachers, Juan Medina and PTA President Florentino Villegas to square out the idea of proposing a barrio high school in the place. The proposal was presented to Mr. Condrado I. Bacuyag the principal of Cagayan National High School then, of which he supported so kindly and eventually, sought the approval of the Schools Division Superintendent, Pedro M. Aguada.
It was in July 1967 when Calaoagan Dackel Barrio High School was formally opened with an enrollment of 56 first year students. They were housed temporarily at Calaoagan Dackel Elementary School. The late Mr. Ireneo B. Dumlao was then the principal of the elementary and he was designated as assistant principal of the high school.
Apparently, as the population was steadily increasing, the need for a campus ground for the high school was a prime concern. This was answered when the first couple of Cagayan were invited to grace the school’s foundation day. Cong. Tito Dupaya and Governor Teresa Dupaya donated an amount to purchase a lot with an area of 13,500 sq. m. Hence, the present site of the school where it gradually metamorphosed into a beaming haven of knowledge and values.
After years of standing tall with the test of times, a new leaf in the history of the school had been turned for new opportunities and development with Mrs. Marcela Dy-Go who headed the office as Principal I on March 1, 1987. The journey of the school continued with her vibrant leadership which left a great impact on the lives of the students and the teachers as well, with strings of success on academic and co-curricular activities, coupled with kind discipline and strong character formation. Then later, Mrs. Go has initiated the establishment of an annex school to cater to more number of students.
With the constant breakthroughs, CDNHS remains undaunted to fulfill its mission and vision and to continue to journey across time and space.
