HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF POSSESSION OR OCCUPATION
OF CABATUANAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Cabatuanan Elementary School is a public educational institution located in Barangay Cabatuanan, Basay, Negros Oriental, one of the ten barangays in the municipality. It was established in 1969 as Cabatuanan Primary School, with only one teacher, Ms. Emily Gaga-a, who also served as the Teacher-In-Charge. The school was created to address the need for accessible education in the barangay, particularly for Indigenous Peoples (IP) learners, as the nearest school, Maglinao Elementary School, was approximately seven kilometers away.
The school occupies a land area of approximately 5,041 square meters, generously donated by concerned individuals: Amalia F. Llamos, Rene M. Fernando, and Jose C. Pablo. Over the years, the school gradually expanded its services, and in 2013, under the leadership of Mrs. Marites S. Anlap, it became a full-fledged elementary school with five teaching personnel. In 2019, Cabatuanan Elementary School further extended its services by opening its first Junior High School class, Grade 7, under the administration of Mr. Cayetano P. Gelardo, with Mr. Ninio H. Crapatanta as the first Grade 7 teacher.
At present, the school serves 149 learners and is led by Mrs. Jeanalyn C. Montederamos. The teaching force is composed of eight teaching personnel, supported by one non-teaching staff (Contract of Service) and one utility personnel. Cabatuanan Elementary School is an Indigenous Peoples Education (IPED) implementing school, with approximately 75% of its student population belonging to the local indigenous group known as Tribu Bukidnon-Magahat. The school continues to uphold its commitment to providing inclusive, quality, and culturally responsive education to its learners. Despite the many challenges faced, including limited resources and geographical isolation, the school strives to be a beacon of learning, hope, and community empowerment in Barangay Cabatuanan.
