History

Busay literally means waterfall or free flowing water but for most Cebuanos, it simply means “Paradise of Flowers”. It is a place where lies a cornucopia of flowers, common and rare species. In 1930, Busay was officially declared as one of the Barangay of Cebu City. It is in this place where Busay National High School is located.

Busay National High School formerly known as Busay Rural High School provides the opportunity for the elementary graduates to continue their formal education in high school following the K to 12 Program for Grade 7 and 12.

Barangay Busay is known for mango production and cut flowers. In the lower portion of the barangay most of the people are laborers, government employees and businessmen.

Barangay Busay bounded on the northwest Barangay Babag on the northeast Barangay Budlaan and on the southeastern is Barangay Kalunasan. The total land area is 690 hectares. It is about 7 kms. From the city of Cebu. Barangay Busay is composed of 22 sitios namely: Nivels Hills, Sugbu Homes, Downsview, Hidden Valley, SkyView Park, Tanguile, PBN Housing, Plazaville, NHA Busay Heights, Patan-on, Maaslom, Lower Busay, Kalubihan, Mahayahay, Hoyohoy, Kangmaya, Kabungahan, Grahe, Kambayog, Pinetree, Danao & Roosevelt.

The topographic condition of the area varies from steep slope in the upper portion to gently rolling slope in the lower portion which the elevation ranges at 400m above sea level. This Barangay has rugged hillside and topographically situated in a warm and cool areas. It is generally grassland/shrub land area. Barangay Busay is centered on agro-forestation like mango and cut flowers.
