HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF BURGOS NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL,

It has been said that education is a continuing learning process. The foundation of the school was in June 1968 just six months after the first local election of the municipality of Burgos on November 8, 1967. It was funded by the Local Government through the collection of taxes 1 % from personal property, real property and other income taxes. It is termed as Special Education Fund (SEF). For the salaries of teachers and employees, they were entitled to 30% from the local government and 70% from the national government as national subsidy.
With the untiring efforts of the late Marceliano V. Cagas and Silverio B. Cacayan as the pioneer educators of Burgos National High School, they initiated to recruit and roamed around the town and barangays of Burgos just to enrol students for first year. The two good people and former teachers of Burgos Central Elementary School together with the former Vice Mayor Hon. Salvador M. Virtudazo and the Principal respectively requested the Municipal Council now termed as Sangguniang Bayan was unanimously and duly approved by the first elected Mayor in year 1967 Hon. Nicolas M. Arcena.
The teacher advisers namely Miss Teresita Bagnol (1st year adviser), Mr. Rufino C. Galagar (2nd year adviser), and Vicente Penera (3rd year adviser) temporarily held classes in some vacant rooms of the elementary school and some even held classes in the social hall (Municipal Gymnasium).
Due to the unforeseen and fortuitous event, Typhoon Atring devastated the school buildings, houses and caused much damaged for coconut and rice plantation in year 1969. On account of the said typhoon there were no more enrolees in Third and Fourth years. The two year levels were closed from 1975 to 1978.
Luckily in 1979 through the recommendation of the Sangguniang Bayan and was approved by the Mayor Pastor A. Macaldo, the reopening of complete high school from First year to Fourth year on June 13, 1979 where in new set of teachers were assigned to teach the students namely: Mrs. Wencita C. Salamingan(First Year Adviser), Mrs. Soledad E. Malinao ( Second Year Adviser), Mr. Filomeno M. Orejas (Third Year Adviser) and Mrs. Providencia G. Platil (Fourth Year Adviser). In the same year, Mrs. Porferia C. Estebe was the first School In charge of Burgos Municipal High School.
In year 1987, by virtue of legislation Burgos Municipal High School was converted into BURGOS NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL and Mrs. Soledad E. Malinao was appointed as the new School In Charge together with the additional active teachers in the Secondary Department namely: Mrs. Anatolia P. Virtudazo, Mrs. Dioscora Platil, Mrs. Villarosa E. Ugay, Mrs. Daisy Mante, Mr. Alvan Yamson, Ms. Anielyn Custodio, Mrs. Madelyn Luego, Mrs. Lalane P. Arcena, Mrs. Dolores F. Liza, Mrs. Prosita J. Arlan, Mrs. Ester Zabale, Mr. Edgardo M. Galagar, Mrs. Mayette G. Roculas . By salary standardization the rate of salaries of teachers were increased from P316.00 to P5,000.00 as the minimum salary of the teacher.
Afterwards, Burgos NHS became integrated school of Burgos District when Mrs. Soledad E. Malinao was retired and Mrs. Emilie C. Pomoy took over as the School In charge from December 9, 2005 to June 6, 2006. Moreover, Burgos NHS development towards quality education continuously improve through the efforts of the new administrator/school heads namely: Mrs. Florence E. Almaden (June 7, 2006-December 8, 2010) ,Mr. Jaime Jeffrey A. Comon (December 9, 2010- June 6, 2012), Mrs. Lalane P. Arcena ( June 7, 2012 –September 29, 2013, Mrs. Gemma L. Ocon ( September 30, 2013 – May 18, 2014, Mr. Rex Mardy C. Labe ( May 19, 2014 – August 2, 2015) and Mr. Jonathan C. Gubantes (August 3, 2015 up to present).
With able and collaborative efforts of the teachers old as well new mentors of Burgos National High School has developed grow with more progress and advancements. The school has produced many graduates and employed locally and even abroad.
Last but not the least the constituents of Burgos and students of Burgos National High School are greatly indebted to the above mentioned teachers and administrators. With God’s blessing and Power MABUHAY TAYONG DepED KAPAMILYA NG BURGOS NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL.
